Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

Go get yourself a fat snack...RIGHT NOW! Cream cheese, or cheese with some celery will help. Some pork rinds with an ounce of sour cream. Cut up a hard boiled egg with mayo and eat it. Eat a half of an avacado, or ten to 20 olives. The fat snack will take away your cravings and leave you feeling satisfied.
Also, get yourself some L-Glutamine and taske it 3 times a day if you have sweet cravings. It will take the sweet cravings away. It totally works! We're allowed 3000 mg a day. Dr. Atkins explains about it on page 136 DANDR. If you would like more info on the L-Glutamin... I'll be happy to give it to you.
    Wishing you much success!

Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

I second what Sherri said. I never had L-Glutamine, but fatty snacks always help.

It sometimes happens to me to be completely out of legal food and to have only some carbage around. What helps then is to take a brisk walk outside or to go running. By the time I'm back, the cravings are usually gone.

And don't forget to drink a lot of water. That will fill you up.

Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

I did not have any pork rinds in the house but had some cream cheese and ham rollups. I guess this is what a drug addict feels like when they can't get their fix!

It is pouring rain where I live which makes it even worse being couped up in the house.

        Thanks for the support ladies!

Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

I've heard people that used to take drugs or were alcoholic say that giving up those substances was easier than not giving in to the cravings for a carb/sugar fix. It really is an addiction. Your body also craves what you are allergic or sensitive to. The difference is that you don't have to ever take a drug or drink alcohol, but you have to eat.

Make sure you have plenty of legal snacks around. First drink some water to make sure you are not registering thirst as hunger. Wait a while to see if that works and then eat if you are really hungry.

Find something to do to take your mind off the carbage in the freezer. Turn on some music and dance yourself silly and then you will forget all about the munchies.

If that doesn't work, make this sure-fire rule: You will allow yourself to eat carbage, but you must eat in front of a full length mirror naked.

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

I'm sorry you're going through this right now....just hang in there.....this too shall pass!!!!

Eat high fat foods, drink lots of water and take your vitamins and before you know it you'll be through these nasty cravings. Try to fit some form of exercise into your day as well...I know that can really help BIG TIME when going through tough times....even if you just take a walk around the block or do some cruches etc in the comfort of your own home. Exercise is a great stress relief (I'm sure these cravings are causing you a bit of stress too).

You can get through this, I know you can!

Keep us posted on how you're making out....we're all here for you!

Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

Is there anything specific that you've eaten recently that you can pinpoint as the cause of your cravings? Sweeteners can cause cravings for some people. Caffeine can cause cravings for others.

              Good luck!

Re: CRAVINGS! What do I do?

                Here's the deal with L-Glutamine.
Take L-glutamine (not glutamic acid). to help control "irresisable" cravings for sweets. Begin with 1 200mg capsul or tablet(I take gel capsule form) three times a day for one week. Then INCREASE the dose to 2 capsuls or tablets three times a day for one week.
After two weeks, if you feel more alert, more energetic, and have lost your craving for sweets, you can then experiment with the amount of L-glutamine you take until you find the best level for you.

                This is how L-Glutamine works-
Through nutritional magic and by the use of L-glutamine, a form of glumatic acid which the brain consumes for energy, we can feed the brain and quiet its craving for sweets.
Because L-glutamine can cross the brain barrier easily, and the brain can take it and quickly convert it into glumatic acid, if you take L-glutamine in supplemental form the brain will be able to satisfy its hunger more easily.
Glumatic acid serves primarily as a fuel for the brain's operation and as a buffer against excess amonia.
The relationship of glumatic acid to glucose (blood sugar) goes beyond the brain-fuel interrelationship. Since the brain can store only a small amount of glucose, it is very dependent on the second-to-second supply of blood sugar which may explain dizziness and other nervous symptoms that accompany hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
The grey matter in the brain converts glumatic acid to a special compound that helps regulate brain cell activity. Thus, a shortage of L-glutamine in the diet, and of glumatic acid in the brain, can result in brain damage due to excess ammonia or a brain that cannot get into "high gear."
The stress of the dieting can lead some people who are not nessesarily fond of alcohol to drink a lot more than usual in an effort to control the stress level they feel.
Also, since alcohol is metabolized very quickly, it is converted to brain fuel, and during your diet your brain can feel hungry and ask for a drink. If you answer it's request and continue to do so you can do more than just wreck your diet program.
Dr. Roger Williams, along with his colleagues at Clayton Foundation for Research at the University of Texas, made the vital discovery that not only did L-glutamine protect against poisonous effects of alcohol, it also controlled or stopped completely the craving for it.
L-glutamine is a versitile amino acid that can contribute to your diet program if, on your way to your best weight level, you suffer from any of these problems described.
L-Glutamine is an excellent supplement to curb the cravings for sweetness and alcohol.
