Question about Sugar Alcohols

  • Question about Sugar Alcohols

    I have a couple of questions to all the Veterans about sugar Alcohols. I bought these Tofutti chocolate fudge treats, and I am unsure of how to count the carbs. It says 30 calories, 1g of protein, 0g of fat, 6g of carbs, 4g of sugar alcohol. So do I count the 6 carbs, or do I subtract the sugar alcohol from the total carbs for a net 2 carbs? I do not go crazy on these, I have like one every 3 or 4 days. The second question I have is how to input this into my calorie counter on Fitday. Do I put in 6 carbs or an adjusted amount. Thanks in advance. BTW, these make my stomach hurt a little so I know the sugar alcohol is working. Thanks in advance for any info.

    In theory you are right - the total carbs would be carbs - the sugar alcohol. But in practice we are very weary about sugar alcohols. Some people actually process them or at least some of them. So that means that some people would have to count all the carbs. Which group are you in? It is hard to tell. If you look at this thread you can see that Sarah discovered that she absorbed sugar alcohols

      I absorb the sugar free dover chocolates. But the russell stover brand....oh it is horrid. Just not worth it

        Liv-THanks for the input..... I am only having one every few days, so I am not too worried about it. How should I input it into fitday? Total carbs or "adjusted" carbs?

          Thanks for the heads up Debie.... I have to say that these Tofutti things are quite tasty. THey have a weird sticky consistency, but are great to get me over my chocolate obsession.

            If they don't give you the 'bathroom effect' (which would prove they are being absorbed and processed) then I would count all the SA carbs and not deducting them.
            Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
