  • My Goodness!! The 'New' Atkins Diet - according to the Daily Mail UK

The All New Atkins Diet Plan which lets you eat those forbidden carbs and STILL lose weight | Mail Online
Apart from increasing the amount of vegetables to 4 cups a day the main difference I see from DANDR from a quick perusal of the article is that they have dropped completely these rules of induction
    4. Eat absolutely no fruit, bread, pasta, grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter. Do not eat nuts or seeds in the first two weeks. Foods that combine protein and carbohydrates, such as chickpeas, kidney beans and other legumes, are not permitted at this time.
    5. Eat nothing that is not on the acceptable foods list. And that means absolutely nothing! Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of failure during this phase of Atkins.
and added en extra rule of their own
You can also eat any Atkins advantage food products, available from . . . . .
And when you see the suggested meal plans you can see why they have made these alterations!!
Ah well, I suppose Atkins the company are in it to sell their product!

And to think that the old Atkins company website used to have a whole page discussing how using the bars and shakes had been known to cause weightloss stalls!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hi E, I read an article in Zest this month that tested Atkins. The main article was a vegetarian on Atkins (and surprisingly, it got good feedback). The secondary article was a meat eater on Atkins but strangely mentioned rye bread for breakfast! Have I missed something? It also mentioned Atkins bars in both meal plans (and how sweet they were). It's a real shame but I guess even this new modified Atkins is better for people than carb loaded junk... we just know it doesn't work as well! Zx

Does this mean they are staging a relaunch? It sounds like it will encourage a lot of people to eat the frankenfoods. Also by cutting out the rule 5. people might not get control of their cravings.

And then they'll complain about Atkins! Grr!

        No new book out then?

This is quite disappointing! You're right Alexa, people will be complaining about this version of Atkins. It is sad that they might think they are doing the programme but not getting the benefits!

That is based on the book by Stuart Trager and Colette Heimowitz. I read it a couple of months ago. It is actually quite close to the 2002 version. The major difference it it downplays fat and stresses protein although if you look closely they still recommend most of the calories come from fat.
There is not OWL step for dairy and alchol. Instead limited dairy is allowed from the beginning and alcohol can be had after induction (in limits).
Although there is concenience food in those menu suggestions, the book warns that stalling may occur and to cut those out if one stalls.

The book is set up as a 12 week programme. And every week there is a big section on exercise. I kind of liked that part.

That's a pretty darn big difference, and really.....if newbies have to look closely they're going to miss it by a mile. They have a hard enough time seeing it when Dr. Atkins said very, very clearly "FAT IS GOOD FOR YOU" and be "UNAFRAID" of fat. LOL

There is not OWL step for dairy and alchol. Instead limited dairy is allowed from the beginning and alcohol can be had after induction (in limits).
Again, a pretty substantial difference, if you ask me.

Yet it recommends and advertises the bejeebers out of those products. We've all been around here long enough to know that most people are looking for the quick and easy way out. They shoot for it when they know it's not allowed in the 2002 version we follow here. They're going to argue it 'till the chemical-laden cows come home and that it's okay. They don't want to hear that it's work and that they have to plan. It won't sell as many books today!

And of course, it'll be Dr. Atkins good name that gets smeared - because the book isn't titled "Stuart & Collette's Diet Revolution".

I don't disagree with you Brook. I think when I read the book I expected it to quite different but many of the sections were straight out of DANDR.
