    RULES OF OWL

Begin with 25g of net carbohydrate a day. Add 5g of net carbohydrate each week as long as gradual weight loss continues, going from 25g to 30g a day, then to 35, and so on.
In general add carbohydrates in the order listed in the Atkins Carbohydrates Ladder, below, starting with more vegetables.
Add items from only one rung of the Ladder each week.
Add within the rung individually - i.e. one kind of nut at a time.
Drop by 5g daily of net carbohydrates for a week if your weight loss stalls or you regain weight.
You can expect to lose 1-2lb a week in OWL.
You can have one alcoholic drink a day in OWL

    The bolded one perhaps?

Wow, the meal plans do not follow DANDR 2002 ~ that's for sure. The rules of Induction and OWL are listed, but the menus don't follow suit. The majority of the meal plan looks good, but...

I went back and looked at the meal plans starting from Day 1. The very first thing they suggest eating is an Atkins bar (aka "convenience" pre-fab frankenfood). Day 1 also includes ricotta cheese (rung 2 of OWL). Day 3 of INDUCTION! lists rye toast and soya milk. Geesh! In the first week of Induction soy nut butter is also listed.

Week 2 continues on with frankenfood and adds whey protein, low-carb multigrain toast, low-carb tortillas, and soy nuts. They are later OWL foods.

Week 3, like the others, has lots of frankenfood and also adds more nuts, seeds, yogurt, and low carb pasta...ALL during week 3 meals. Week three should only have extra veggies!

Week 4 adds raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries (OWL rung 4 so shouldn't be added until at least week 6), low-carb WHITE bread, low-carb muffin mix.

I could go on, but I gotta run...

I'm tempted to look, but I don't want to stroke out by my normally low blood pressure going through the roof. The last time I read about the "new" Atkins I had steam coming out of my ears by the first page and what they thought was an earthquake in New York was really Dr. Atkins rolling over and over in his grave!

What happened to breaking your addiction to carbs? Seems unlikely if you're able to have TOAST on the 3rd day!

Okay, I lied. I couldn't resist, and lookie what I found:
LUNCH: Veggie pizza : 1 low carbohydrate tortilla (3) topped with 1/4 cup tomato sauce (3) and 1/3 cup frozen textured vegetable protein, heated (2); top with 1oz/28g mozzarella cheese, shredded (1). 1 cup mixed salad leaves (1) with vinaigrette (1)

Yum! NOT! Why would anyone want to eat that for lunch when you can have real food? That sounds like a real diet; one where you suffer, but don't lose any weight. All those breakfasts of a processed bar or shake and a (1) boiled egg. That's a Slimfast diet, isn't it?

I'll stick to the Real Deal.

            Sunny!

Ya know what is funny though?

I also belong to the BBS on the Atkins site and the mods there tell people to get the 2002 version or earlier and follow those versions and not go by the website version.............I have seen them scold people for telling others to look it up on the website. They will quote from DANDR and tell Page # and paragraph #............

And I think they work for Atkins Nutritionals.............

I love Mrs. Atkins site too!! She is promoting her late DH, the Great Dr. A's nutritional approach!!

I notice that the article has no comments....I can only guess that they haven't been approved by the moderator But, I left my own anyway.
