  • Can anyone suggest an OTC supplement that helps with LEG CRAMPS?

I can not find anything at Walgreens that just says POTASSIUM or CALCIUM. Best I found was Fiber pills "with calcium", but the Potassium Daily Value is <1% ??? Even my multi-vitamins' daily value for potassium is only 2% ??

Please be specific with products you've found? Thanks!

    Hi Gillart,
I've always been able to find Potassium at vitamin stores, but not often at drug stores. Why not try a speciality store?
    Good luck! It really works.

I agree with Vickie, try a specialist vitamin store. I use one called Holland and Barrett but I think they're only in the UK! I get leg cramps as well and taking potassium always helps! Good luck!

I got my potassium gluconate at walgreens and I know they have about 50 kinds of calcium. I prefer the mineral type like coral calcium. Barefoot makes a coral calcium that is good and they have it at my local walgreens.

I found both my calcium and potassium at Walmart in the vitamin section, really inexpensive too!

The common wisdom about any muscle cramps is to take more Potassium and people will usually say to eat bananas for that. But Bananas may not be a good choice for people doing Atkins. I have found that Calcium is also important to eliminate leg cramps. I can get cramps while surfing in cold water so I have some experience. Try getting a multi mineral. Twin Labs makes one and so do many others. I get a lot of my supplements on Vitacost. So get some Potassium, some Calcium Citarte, and a multi mineral and see what works for you. Oh yeah, more water too.

I haven't heard much about Calcium Citarte...
But I've always been told that the best way for our bodies to ingest Calcium is to take in combination with Magnesium and Vit. D. So... I take a combo vitimin = CalMagD
By the way - this wisdom was confirmed by a friend with arthritis

For me - the best thing for leg cramps is the Potassium supplement.

well it seems I misspelled it. I meant Calcium Citrate. If you look at the labels of calcium supplements, you tend to see two main forms: calcium carbonate (Tums for example) or Calcium Citrate. The Citrate form is supposed to be easier to absorb. If it is just sitting in your stomach neutralizing acid, the absorption does not matter. There are probably other forms of calcium on the market as well. I picked up chewable chocolate flavor sugar free Calcium at Costco.

I order most of my supplements from Nutrition Express online, their prices are reasonable, they have everything, and it saves me time from driving around looking when most of the stores near my small town aren't going to have what I need anyway!!
