  • Help - back up a pound

Hi, I'm on Day 5 and I think I'm doing a clean induction. I weighed this morning and am back up a pound!!!! Very disheartened. Total weight loss after 5 days is only 2 pounds. Feel really shaky today as well and a bit nauseous. Very hard to concentrate. Have about 30 pounds to lose.

If someone has time could they look at what I'm eating and tell me if I'm getting something wrong.

    Day 3
Roast beef slices x 4 (with salt) (1 gram)
Small green leaf salad with chicken and bacon in mayo (2 grams)
2 egg omelette with onion and pre-cooked bacon (3 grams)
    Small bottle diet coke
Three glasses unsweetened dilutable orange (3 grams)

I'm already thinking the salt might be it but how could I eat so little and go up a pound? Plus I walked for 20 mins yesterday. I really need to weigh and see results to keep myself on track. Dreading the weekend.

So questions - what am I doing wrong and should I be feeling this shaky?

    Thanks! B.

    So what is dilutable orange?

Small green salad is your only veggie? No wonder you're feeling bad. You need to brush up on the rules here are a couple of links that you may find helpful

Increase your carbs. I just said this in another post, but I'll say it again. Atkins is LOW carb not NO carb. Try to get as close to 20 as you can by eating veggies. Also cut out the diet coke, unless it is the kind with Splenda. The orange stuff probably should go to.

As for feeling shaky. People feel all kinds of weird things when they start Atkins. It should be gone soon. Drink lots of water, and it may help.

Hi Browneyes, how much water are you drinking a day? Need to help your body flush out the carbs. You will be in for a dissapointment if you weigh yourself every day. May want to check once a week or once a month. Inches are very important too. Good luck and much success to you.

Dilutable orange is an orange drink that you mix with water. It's not fizzy. It contains aspartame and saccharin and has carbs of 0.8 per 100 ml on the label.

I thought I could have diet coke since it was made with aspartame? I will look at the rules again.

I forgot to say that I had a cup of oxo (beef bouillon) so that was another 2 grams or so.

Will try to eat more veggies today so. Thanks for the help. B.

If you are female, your monthly cycle may be playing tricks with you. I always retain water right before "it", so I stop weighing for a few days. I can weigh as much as 3 pounds heavier and then in 4 days be 6 pounds lighter. Just ignore it and keep on as you are going. The weight will come off!!!

Re: Help - back up a pound

Just read the rules posted and see that aspartame is not allowed - I must have an old copy of the book as it is allowed in it. Will cut out the coke etc.

Thanks Judy. No cycle is not a factor here but I am feeling a bit better now and will keep going till tomorrow. Hopefully things will have changed by then if I follow all the advice. Thanks for the support.

I need to clarify, your gram measurements are not for your food, but for the sodium?

                    Hi Sadie,

Um no, i didn't know I was supposed to be counting sodium?

I've just been keeping a rough track of carbs to make sure I stay under the 20 mark. I reckon I ate around 12/13 or so yesterday, not more than 20 anyway even though my portions were big.

Do i need to count sodium? If so what level do i need to stay under?

Re: Help - back up a pound

Salty food can cause water retention so if you eat a lot of salt one day you will way more the next as the body will try to hang on to water. It is temporary.
When you checked the rules of induction, you will see it is not the fact that you are supposed to stay under 20 gram of carbs that is important. The important thing on induction is that most of those carbs should come from vegetables.

Re: Help - back up a pound

A few days ago I was really disheartened that I had been perfect, no cheats at all and was back up 2 lbs. The next day I was back down the extra 2 lbs and then the day after that I was down a pound. I agree that you probably shouldn't weight yourself everyday, I can be a bit obsessive so I promised myself the only time I could weigh myself everyday was during induction. After I'm done with Induction it will be once a week and take pictures every two weeks.

Don't worry about any short term gains, look at the long term losses. Just keep at it and the fat will disappear, that's what I had to keep telling myself.
I WILL learn to feel comfortable in my own body again!
