    OK!
    For the 1000th time this week!

    Atkins bars and shakes are Frankenfoods.
    Don't use them on induction!
    I don't care what the Atkin's website says.
    Dr. A has a list of foods to follow in the book.
    Have you read the book?

    Second, they have sugar alcohols and nasty stuff in them and probably should be avoided all the time.

    Eat real food!
    Learn what real food is, stop relying on prepackaged convenience foods. There is a reason they can sit on a shelf for two years. Try that with a steak or a head of lettuce.

    Many people on here have written that these bars and shakes cause them to stop losing weight or cause gut problems. It's not a good thing to eat.

    Ok, I think that covers it enough.

    I couldn't agree with you more Kevin, great post! These bars and shakes are not good for us...that's the bottom line.

    We need to stick to the "real" foods and stop eating processed junk.

    (100 lbs. lost as of Oct 2, 2008 - Hit 300 lbs. on this day )
    Current weight – 251 lbs.
    Goal weight - 150 – 160

      Ok, I am the first to advocate eating whole, fresh foods. However, I do believe the Atkins shakes (NOT the bars) have an appropriate place in this WOE.

      For instance, I get up at 3:00am and need to have something on my stomach with in 30 minutes of waking, says Dr A. in the book (2002) version. I don't like to eat food at that time of the morning.

      Yes, I do have a protein shake until my stomach can handle food.

      Also, I have TMJ issues and may have to have surgery on my jaw. That means a liquid diet................Protein shakes will be my best friend as I will throw up if I would blend up steak and salad for a shake.

      If you step foot in my kitchen, you will see nothing but real, whole, fresh foods. Except for the shakes.

      I have no issues with having 5 shakes a week as my breakfast.

        Long ago, I had my mouth wired shut after I busted it upon a car accident. I made a "shake" out of chef boyardee. It's surprising what you can drink

            at least TMJ is a reason to to drink something, but I rarely eat 30 mins from waking. I take metformin just after wakinh and I am supposed to eat with it because of how hard it is on the stomach, but I just don't like to eat early. I usually don't don't eat until around noon, about 5 hours after I get up.

            I just am never hungry until then.

            And then I don't eat a shake or atkins bar!

              Hi Leanlioness,

              TMJ is certainly a reason to turn to protein shakes when needed, I totally agree. My concern is when people substitute them primarlily for whole foods in order to achieve weight loss and good health when they can actually eat whole foods.

              I'm sorry you've had to go through TMJ, I know it to be very painful indeed.

                  I take Metformin too and if I didn't do that shake when I get up in the morning, I would be sick....................

                  I take 2000 mg of Metformin a day and that first pill

                  That is why I have the Atkins shake at 3am in the morning!!

                    I take 2000mg a day too. 1000mg each time. I just can't eat that early.
                    The pill doesn't make me sick at all, but i do have the later in the day side effects...

                    ick!!!

                      I agree Kevin, Shakes and Bars are frankenfood and personally, I think the bars taste like chocolate covered cardboard and the shakes are just plain nasty...not to mention unhealthy. But I can see if folks where they are better than the alternative - carbs in a cup
                      I have yet to find a decent Induction friendly shake recipe. There may be one out there, but I haven't found it.

                        My too-skinny neice had some major jaw surgery that required her jaws to be wired shut for eight weeks. For the first time ever she gained a lot of weight and fast. She found she could make about anything liquid enough to suck through a straw. She didn't get full as fast as she did when chewing and swallowing her food, so she gained weight fast. She was drinking Slim Fast shakes and gaining like crazy.

                          You can do anything you set your mind to do. I had the same problem when I started Atkins, with an abhorrence to eating early since childhood.

                          I knew I needed to change my eating habits, so I made a list. At the top was "Eat breakfast before 9:00 a.m." It was the hardest thing on my list, but I made up my mind that it was something I needed to do and I could do anything I chose to do. The first day I choked down breakfast at 11:00 a.m. Not exactly 9:00 a.m., but it was progress. I also had to stop eating by 7:00 p.m. so I would be empty and hungry by morning. It took a month, but at the end of the month I was hungry for and eating breakfast between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

                          I had changed bad habits of a lifetime and was rewarded with weight loss and no more meds for acid reflux. I had been taking 160mg of Nexium for years and still had acid reflux that kept me up at night.

                            Atkins Bar Mathematics. When some of their Advantage Bars have 15 g of cars, 4gr of Fibre and 3 of Sugar Alcohols ---- how do you get to 3 Net Carbs?????

                              It is glycerin. They do not have to put it on the label as a sugar alcohol but they add it
                              Here is a viewpoint about it
                              Glycerine is another sweet additive that manufacturers add to low carb bars. Here again, you'll find that, because manufacturers claim glycerine does not raise blood sugar, they omit it in the carb section of the label information or, if they do list it, they do not include it in number of diet-counted "impact" carbs. (Glycerine is sometimes spelled Glycerin and is another name for glycerol.)
