  • Soy Slender Soy Milk - ??

    Hi guys...

I'm on day # 8 of atkins, yay! So I read the book many times but I had a question... Before my parents died...we had found Soy Slender Vanilla Soy Milk in the healthy sections of the food stores or at Trader Joes. They were on Atkins for years. For one cup of this Soy Milk, it's 1 carb and less than one sugar. I drink about half a cup a day before a work out even though the contents seem compatable with Atkins...I'm just afraid since he says NO MILK - but it's Soy Milk and I don't know if this is acceptable.

I'm hoping it is since I've been drinking it and I seem to be losing weight but if you guys think it's a bad idea, I'd rather throw it out than take the chance...

    Thoughts??
    Thank you!

Strictly speaking soy 'milk' would become an OWL rung 6 (legumes) addition.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Oh CRAP. I didn't know that. So basically I ruined my induction?! I will just keep doing the diet and stop drinking it then. How is it that if it's only 1 carb and less than 1 sugar, it can't be accepted on atkins? I couldn't find this in his book....

Anyone know the specifics as to why??

I'd have to look into this, but probably for the same reason nuts aren't allowed, or cottage cheese. Certain low carb foods that combine carbs with high protein aren't allowed.

It is allowed, just not during induction because soy is a legume. It would be allowed when you reach OWL level 6 - legumes, as Elizellen mentioned.

Thank you! I hope I didn't mess this up too badly for myself. I seem to be toning up and losing lbs / inches...I'll just stop drinking it then.

            Thank you!!!

If you want something to drink quicker then rung 6, I drink unsweetened almond milk. You still have to wait until the nut rung but you'll get something to drink sooner

Aw thank you! I'm actually just fine with water. I never crave any kind of drink but I thought, what the heck, I'll treat myself since it looked okay for induction but I was wrong!! Good to know though, about the almond milk!
