  • Arghhh! " Community Food Tables" at work... you have one?

I made a post about dark chocolate the other night, being only 8 feet from where I sit / work.... well, this is a CONSTANT challenge, but I feel like I am up to it.

I work in TV, and our morning show has guests who frequently bring in "samples" for our crew. Almost every single day, in fact.

OK, so today's "nightmare" includes ( again only 8' from where I sit ):

    1. A "pie" made of whipped cream, graham crackers, oreos, and Nilla Wafers. ( made by a bakery... there were 3, but two are already eaten )

    2. About 2 pounds of root beer barrells, and butterscoth hard candies

    3. ( 3 ) 2 liter bottles of regular soda

    4. A box of "Mexican" Chocolate cookies

    5. About 10 GIGANTIC chocolate covered strawberries

    6. A big plate of candy canes.

Sigh.... Anybody else have to deal with this "problem"?

work places are a sabotage!! But it can be done!

I worked at Microsoft, where on a daily basis I would attend a morning meeting catered with bagels, donuts, scones and fruit-- followed by our afternoon catered meeting with lasagna, pasta, potatoes, pies, cookies, etc..-- followed by my afternoon task of putting out rice krispies, cookies, brownies, pastries for "tea time"-- I did this everyday for 7 months! For 7 months, I did not cheat. Not once. It can be done!! I hope you find the willpower within, the key is to have your own snacks packed.

This happens where I work too! One time a couple from work roasted a pig for a charity event and I was sent to their house to take them more supplies. I silently freaked when I got there. The house was trashed and filthy. There were 2 huge dogs running around the kitchen trying to snitch the pork and the flies!!! Flies were buzzing around everywhere and landing on the meat! That was the moment I realized you NEVER KNOW how/where a food is prepared unless you do it yourself. After that, I don't have much trouble saying, no thanks!!

i dont find resisting foods like chocolate chip cookies , brownies, pastries hard at all cause i know theres absolutely nothing good in them and they will cause harm to my body

but... when healthy foods are mixed in with harmful foods like Steak with a sugar marinade or a salad with some dressing that has sugar in it thats when it starts to get really hard!

I thought I had it bad with just a candy bowl full of chocolate.
I guess I'd try to stay filled up on Atkins friendly foods, and that way at least you won't be hungry.
Everlosing gave me an idea, picture that table covered with buzzing flies.

I work for a local city government and next to my assistance desk is the official "Grazing Grounds" (yes, there is even a sign) complete with chocolates, snack crackers, cinnamon bears, truffles, you name it. UGH...I have to walk by it atleast 10 times per day. I used to stop at it every time I walked by and grab a nibble. No longer!!! Although, today I actually found myself really tempted to grab something. But I didn't!

Today it is easy. There are ONLY about 6 boxes of donuts.... .... and I don't like donuts.

That's not too bad then. One time i chewed up a donut and spit it out. Then I wondered if that meant I had an eating disorder for months.

Ha, now as I said that - about there ONLY being 6 boxes of donuts - someone just walked in with a HUGE wrapped gift basket and put it on the table... I have no idea what it is, but it can't be good!

Seriously, working at a TV station can be really bad for your health. People drop stuff off at our desk all the time. A few weeks ago, the local Chic - Fil -A probably dropped off $200 worth of chicken sandwiches and nuggets for reasons unknown.

If a new bakery opens up it is almost guaranteed that they will drop off cakes, pies, and cookies.

Now, ONE DAY was really cool. A seafood restaurant opened up nearby and they dropped off about 15 lobsters, and probably 10 pounds of assorted seafood! That was awesome!

Then, 4 weeks ago, I suffered an allergic reaction to seafood... .... and now I have to be tested for which ones I am allergic to. What a sad day that was.

Wow if that work atmosphere doesn't test willpower I don't know what does?!!! When I used work in an office we used to have parties ever week and people would bring in a bunch of junk. But there was one guy in the office who was on Atkins and we would all bring in some stuff for him. For his birthday someone made this Peanut Butter chocolate Atkins cake and it was delish. I wasn't on Atkins back then but man I wish I had the recipe!

Well, I can't eat it, but the gift basket was all fruit, and some of it is chocolate covered.

Those food tables are a toughy! I've never had a workplace that doesn't have them. Boo! I always keep on hand some almonds or other atkins friendly snacks and find that that helps when I feel the willpower being tested. Always seems to work!

Ours is still filled with cookies and chocolates left over from Xmas. One client brought in the most delicious-looking, beautiful baklava too. I WISH I could say it was enough to look at it and smell it, but I can't lie, it took a lot of willpower not to taste any!
