Hey there everyone. newbie to the forum. A little bit about myself first:
35 yr old male, and as of 2 weeks ago i was 220 lbs. I went to my doc to get some bloodwork done and he gave me some stern words. My cholesterol is 257, glucose levels indicated i was prediabetic. Good cholesterol was low, bad cholesterol high. All bad. walking heart attack stuff. I didn't look like i was 220, so my best guess is that all the fat is/was wrapped around vital organs and that years of holding in my gut now feel normal to me.
I've been putting weight on steadily since college. A few years ago I did atkins for a couple weeks and lost weight fast, and I wasnt even doing the induction diet correctly - i was munching on nuts thinking they were ok, going way overboard on the cheese. Its funny, the chapter on the induction diet is pretty short, but as I go back and re-read (for reinforcement primarily), I always pick up on something i had missed earlier... Anyway, Im following it to the letter this time and im on day 5 and as of this morning, deep in ketosis.
We started a biggest loser challenge at work last monday. I weighed in at 215.5 and today im down to 208.5 - for the first four days of that week I went on a cleansing diet of fruits and vegetables. Ive done this before and i always lose weight on it- usually 10-15 lbs, problem being you immediately put it back on. Well, not this time, since i immediately went into the atkins diet following. Sooooo thats cool.
Ok so here's my question. As i mentioned above I'm really tracking the carbs this time and these atkins bars really have me confounded. 22g carbs on the label, 2 gm NET carbs on the box they say. But i cant reconcile the math. 10g of each bar is fiber, so you subtract that out and youre still left with 12g carbs. Where are the other 10 gm carbs being subtracted, and why on EARTH wouldnt they explain it better on the box for crying out loud? Atkins.com? Nada. just a blown up copy of the same nutritional info on the box.
Does anyone here have a better understanding of the math behind the 2g net carb claim? I trust them if they say it, but understanding it would make it more palatable
pun intended...
...and ftr, im not going to go ballistic on these things. Im not even much of a sweettooth - but on the run or coming from my GF's place, these may be helpful to have on hand. Thanks in advance!
