Ok so this my first post on this board. I had a quick question though. I have well over 100 pounds to lose at this point. My highest weight was 383, and I am currently 358. I was bopping around the internet and started looking into several plastic surgery procedures. Now... I'm not one that has EVER considered any form of surgery to enhance my apperance (not to say that you shouldn't), but now I am worried that after losing all of this weight, I will have tons of sagging skin, especially around my tummy and thighs. So my question is this, have any of you that have lost a huge amount of weight faced this same problem? If you chose not to have the surgery... did the skin tighten up at all? Also, if you elected to have surgery... what was the outcome? Thanks y'all!

Re: Quick question for y'all.
I lost 140lbs, didn't have surgery, some of it goes away immediately, it gets better in time... some people have lost more and kept it off for longer and look as though they never were fat, without any surgery.27/f/5'10"

Re: Quick question for y'all.
it depends on your age too. if you are young, the skin will get better (although not completely). i think it is a tough decision to make about what to do. try weight training exercises at the gym maybe??
if you do decide to do surgery after you've lost all the weight, please be careful about 'discount' doctors...

Re: Quick question for y'all.
It depends on weight, it depends on age, it depends how long you were at the higher weight, it depends how much you exercise, moisturize, water amount you drink, genetics... there are a *ton* of variables.27/f/5'10"

Re: Quick question for y'all.
I didnt have excess skin from losing a bunch of weight, but from losing a baby belly after the birth of my son. My surgeon said my son stretched me out the way 3 pregnancies would, but not one! So, I have had a tummy tuck and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. If you do end up with excess skin, you will prob feel the same way. This is why it is sooooo important to excercise while you are losing lbs, because once the skin is there, your only option will be surgery so be proactive and get working on that bod now!

Re: Quick question for y'all.
Work hard with the excercise so you are building and toning muscle, not just losing fat. I think that will go a long way to helping the sagging issue! But of course you could possibly have stretched out skin when you reach goal and if that is the case you can evaluate then how bad it is and how much it is worth it to you to have surgery to correct it. Good luck!

Yes, I agree with everyone, wait till after you lose the weight to see how things are "left". Knowing that you can have the option to correct it surgically, will be an added bonus for you.... just to know you can always fix it.
For now, get your mind set on determintion! You can do it... and be strong. I have to lose like 70 lbs to get to where I want to be. I used to get so discouraged, but I have to take it a little bit at a time. I just restarted this mornig after having gone off. I am stikcing to it this time!!!!

Re: Quick question for y'all.
When I lost almost 100 pounds I did not have saggy skin at all - but - I drank well over 64 oz. of water per day, I exercised, and I was 27 years old. I will, if it is a problem, later decide if I need skin removed. Don't worry about any of that for now. Just get yourself healthy and get the weight off - that is the most important. Cosmetics can wait for your "treat" to yourself when you have accomplished your goals. Good luck and remember to jot down your moods so when you want a craving, read how great your mind is on Atkins!

Re: Quick question for y'all.
Gosh y'all... thanks for the replies! I think I have decided to not let it bother me for right now. I have been overweight since I was like 10, so I figure at some point sugery will pop up again. But I am trying really hard to focus right now to just get the weight off. Thanks again!!!

Re: Quick question for y'all.
Hi
The most I've ever lost in one go is 70lbs, and I had no sagging skin. My skin tone even when at my biggest is generally really good though (I don't get cellulite really... I just get wide lol)
My friend just had gastric bypass surgery 18 months ago and has gone from a UK 24 down to a UK size 8.
She lost a total of 130lbs. Last week she had a tummy tuck and next month she is having a full body lift, breast lift/augmentation, inner thigh and upper arm surgery.
Despite all the surgery - she is happy and wouldn't have it any other way. Sure she is not happy that she had sagging skin and will now have scars, but she is ecstatically happy that she is no longer fat.
Good luck.

Re: Quick question for y'all.
Exercise is so important when it comes to the skin. When we loose the weight our skin may start to sag...however if you replace that fat with muscle it will not look as loose. Granted I agree with everyone else that there are other factors that play a role in this as well. But for now concentrate on just getting rid of the extra lbs.
Someone on this forum once said, " We diet to look great with our clothes on; We exercise to look great with out clothes off." - This has become my new motto.
