  • its not working this time

    i did atkins diet 6 years ago and lost 50 lbs,,,and lost alot during first week,,,,this morning after a week on,, with no carbs ive only lost 4 lbs. i know im doing everything right,,, i think im giving up

    If you're eating "no carbs" are you eating vegetables?

    In my world, 4 lbs in one week *is* a lot. During the induction period, people typically lose about 10% of the overall weight they have to lose. Sooo.. if you have 56lbs to lose, you would lose about 5.6lbs in the first 2 weeks. Seems to me like you're ahead of schedule.

      No carbs? You are supposed to have some carbs.
      Post a menu and let's see what may be tweaked.
      A lot change in 6 years. Age takes it tolls. Metabolism change. Body change. Hormones change. Are you perhaps takings some meds you were not earlier? Expecting your period? Trained very hard? Ate a lot salts? Did you forget to drink tons of clean normal water? Did you have lots of sweeteners, coffeine, fizzy drinks? Whatever it is, don't expect a total repeat of 6 years ago.
      4 lbs for a week it good. 4 lbs gone forever is worth celebrating. Not getting down at.

        Giving up to do what? Nothing?? Don't try to compare yourself today to who you were 6 years ago! Our bodies are always finding ways to make things more difficult for us! You and I have the same goals (I started at 192 on 01/03 and am only down 7lbs). 4lbs is a great loss for one week! The thing you need to rememeber is that this diet does work if you work the diet! You have a 50 loss 6 years ago to prove it! Just stay with it...this next week may be your week! I recommend you keep up what you are doing and decide in a month if you want to quit! I doubt you will! Also, you should post your menu for the board to review. They can quickly see things that may be slowing you down, but again 4lbs is not insignificant at all!

          Supposedly it is a little tougher the second time around.

          The diet is low-carb, not no-carb. Eat your veggies please.

          Are you excersizing?

          Are you drinking all of your water?

          Is it your time of month? That always messes up the women.

          4 lbs in one week is good. You should expect 5-10% of your goal in your first 2 weeks. You appear to be on good pace. Atkins is not a crash diet, so your frustration will only get worse if you are expecting to lose the weight and let yourself go again after you lose the weight.

          Good luck, stick with it

            thanks lyssie,,that does help..but isnt it just water weight? i want to keep going,,i have an eating disorder,,,bulimia,,and this diet is the only thing that gets me to stop throwing up,,the bulimia was not even making me lose weight,,

              No it is not just water weight! I lost 7lbs last week and 5 inches....those 5 inches prove it is not just water! Chin up! Stay focused! You WILL get there!

                thankyou all so much for your support!!!your right,, here is what i ate yesterday,,,3 pieces boiled chicken in its broth,,yes salty,, with maybe 12-pork rinds,,water all day,,alot,,and 3 diet pepsis throughout the day,,thats it,,,no more,,and i take 100mg of zoloft once a day. other days have been the same,,only meat and eggs,,i havent even eaten a piece of cheese..no i havent had ant vegtables,,,zero. and i havent been exercising at all. ya know,,,you guys are so great,,i feel better already

                  4 pounds in a week? I don't see the problem. That is pretty darn good. Now go eat some veggies and do some exercise and see what happens.

                    Yes! You have to eat veggies (come on, even with an eating disorder you should never feel guilty about eatting those!!) You are having WAY too much salt! Where is the variety?? You have to have variety or you will get bored and quit! Have you read the book?

                        You need to review induction rules and eat your cheese, some fat, veggies etc... this isn't a starvation diet! It's also about learning to eat healthfully and moderately. Please go back to the book and review induction. Eating all that you are allowed will give you a more balanced diet so you're getting your vitamens. You also need to be taking supplements, drinking lots of water and exercising! If you don't eat enough that can also stall your wt loss. Take good care of you! Starving yourself can set you up for a binge. Balance... 3 meals a day... it's supposed to be a healthy lifestyle not a quick fix. Losing 50 lbs takes time, give your body the time it needs to lose it healthfully.

                          please don't take offense but what you are doing is not atkins. atkins should be a lifestyle change and there are strict rules for induction and following the rungs so that you lose weight safely and keep it off. please read the book if you have not already and follow it to the letter for best results. i DO think that 4 pounds in a week is a good loss! but to be HEALTHY please follow DANDR. good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!

                            I totally agree with Misplaced Southerner! What you described is not Atkins. Please, have a good read through the book and learn to do this the right way. If you do you will be so glad you did! It will teach you how to have a healthier relationship with food and your body, which it sounds like you need. This is a great way of life and I hope you learn more about it and don't give up. I also think you need to manage your expectations a bit. How much were you expecting to lose in the first week? Four pounds is great and for you to say that it is not working and you are ready to give up after that tells me that you have unrealistic expectations. You can do absolutely do this and you will thank yourself! I am so much happier with myself and my body image now than ever before and it is not just because I have lost some weight. It is because I feel healthy and in control. Good luck and keep us posted! And start eating those veggies! And fat! It doesn't sound like you're eating enough! I know it can be a scary thought but you need to get in enough food and enough of the right food for this to work as well as it can.
