  • Help!!!!

I have just decided to try this diet. I have heard great things. Can anyone give me any tips on how to get through the first few days?

    Re: Help!!!!

Have a lot of legal foods around, like cheese (3 to 4 ounces per day), boiled eggs, cooked chicken that you can grab and dip into some mayo, celery sticks with cream cheese and so on. Fat fills you up and stays with you. Fat is what cures your cravings.

Don't worry about eating too much the first few days until you have gotten into the swing of things. Most people eat too little the first week, rather than too much. Eating too little may sound like the way to lose faster, but it doesn't work that way. Don't even think about trying to do Atkins low fat!

Atkins is high fat and moderate protein. Fat will help you get into ketosis faster and will provide the energy you used to get from carbs. Put butter or extra virgin oil liberally on all your veggies. Eat the skin on poultry. If you eat skinless chicken breast, be sure to add fat to it. Excess protein will be converted to glucose.

Drink lots of plain water. When you think you've had enough, drink some more. Thirst is sometimes mistaken for hunger. Plus, you need extra water to flush out the toxins leaving your body along with the fat.

Don't push yourself to exercise strenuously the first few days, but do something. Walking will do you fine until you get past the induction flu and get your burst of energy.

Keep positive thoughts in your head. If you think negatively about diet or exercise, you will defeat the purpose of beginning. What you think will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

    Sunny!

        Everything that Sunny said!

Plan, plan and plan more! Make sure that you have a plan for every bite that is going into your mouth, where it is coming from and when you will eat it! Especially in those first few days for me I am tempted to cheat because I tell myself that I haven't really started yet! I can stay away from that by having my own legal snacks ready and by making sure that I don't leave myself vulnerable by not eating when I should have and therefore being hungry.

And, and most importantly, read through Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution and figure out exactly what you need to be doing and why. Also, reading it just encourages me that I can do this and when I feel like that I'm less likely to cheat!

Good luck and let us know how you are getting on!

          Re: Help!!!!

hi Fit -- nice to see you have come to join us. The best advise I can give you is to save what Sunny just said above - she was the first person to welcome me when I came to the website and luckilly I saved her words. I have returned to them several times in the last couple weeks. If you don't have the book - buy one today. Read the book and follow it to the letter, this will work if you do it the way it is written! Join some exercise challenges - post and get to know people - listen to their experiences and learn from them also. Go to the recipe sites to get ideas on induction meals you can make - here is one that I rely on alot Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Induction Menus.

Change your idea of losing weight, because whatever you think you know - you will do the opposite and in doing so, you WILL loose weight. If you need help or feel alone talk to someone, ask questions. The more you use the website, the more it can help you!

I look forward to seeing your progress.

              Re: Help!!!!

Good for you for ordering the book! You will be glad you did!

For advice on how long it will take you to lose could you give us some information about yourself? How much do you have to lose? What are your age, height, gender and current weight? All these things play a factor in what you're trying to do.

For me, I've lost 50 lbs and have 25 lbs to go. I started last January but have really only had about 6 months of hard core Atkinsing in there! I really don't recommend getting off an on like I have done! Good luck!
