  • Period and Atkins???

I've been reading some posts and have heard some people talking about your period and how it may effect your weight loss. I was wondering if someone could let me know the reason behind this.

I've been on induction for 10 days and only lost 2 lbs. Last time I did Atkins I lost 12 lbs in 10 days. But I'm pretty sure my period is due anytime now...is that why I'm not seeing the results I had expected?

If someone could let me know that would be great and it would help keep me motivated! Thanks, Vicki

i've got my period too (and on the induction phase)and quite honestly i do get bloated while i'm on it...i guess wait until your period weighing yourself? are you working out and drinking lots of water? sometimes that helps getting rid of water retention

Most women bloat up 3 to 7 pounds when getting ready for TOM. Your body is preparing just as if you are going to become pregnant, with swelling breasts, etc. The hormones are all in a tizzy and hormones are stored and metabolized in fat tissue. Just losing fat from your body disturbs the hormone balance.

A lot of us at the beginning start to have heavier or lighter periods. You may have them more or less often at the beginning. Most of us have found that after everything settles down, we have less PMS and less cramps and pain.

A few days after your period actually starts, you should lose the bloating and the pounds will be gone on the scale.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Yeah, I'm going for walks and drinking pleanty of water. Would I be retaining water because of too much salt or not enough water ? Or would it be the whole period thing?

I have a problem with atkins and my period..... I crave chocolate and my period will be due soon and I have just started atkins also. Fluid retension is the answer I think...... Hang in there. It will pass... and the weight will come off. It's difficult when this is meant to be the fast weight loss part. I've lost about the same amount..

TOM can be so frustrating! It always makes me mad when I step on the scale to find myself retaining water. I try to stay off the scale as much as I can make myself in the lead up to TOM! I figure the last thing I need when I'm already hormonal and grumpy is the scale to tell me that I'm fatter for no good reason!! Don't worry and don't let it discourage you, it is just water and will whoosh away in good time!

Ohhhh me too.. I think I'm due TOM and I'm on 11th Day of Induction and it really seems to be going so much slower with me this time round.
I'm really hoping that has something to do with it.

                    Re: Period and Atkins???

I am so glad I'm not the only one going through this! I started to get really frustrated. The first week of Induction I lost 3 lbs and then the second week I lost another 2. Now in my 3rd week (I'm doing extended Induction) I have completely stalled. I haven't changed what I'm eating, I'm not really doing anything different but I gained a pound and stuck there all week. I know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but I can't stop myself, I keep hoping even for a half a pound drop, but nope holding steady at exactly 164.0. Then I realized, it's about that time of the month and maybe that has something to do with it. I think I should start any day now, and I can't wait (I honestly think that is the first time I've ever said that!) The sooner it starts, the sooner it will end and I can re-weigh and see if I drop any pounds.
I WILL learn to feel comfortable in my own body again!

And hopefully that'l kick things off. TOM came to visit me yesterday so like you said, HU, I'm actually relieved for a change!. Anyways, hang in there and wish everyone happy dieting!

                          Hiya

Well TOM still hasn't arrived and scale still hasn't budged.. BUT
I measured myself this morning and was surprised that I had lost inches everywhere.. including two on my tummy

I was wondering if everyone was also measuring themselves to see if that helped.
                          xx

I was on day 6 of induction when I had my TOM. It stalled my weight loss momentarily, but the scales have moved again during the second week. I have not been able to exercise because of injury. I'm dying to get out there and start exercising again as I know it will keep the scale moving in the right direction. I will just have to be patient!
