thought i was doing well but...

  • thought i was doing well but...

    Hi, I thought I was doing well till I started to read this forum! I thoguth I had started the induction phase, but after trying the ketostiks i realise im not even in ketosis after 5 days.
    I have been eating;

    three boiled eggs
    4 0z of cheese
    some cucumber
    3 atkins bars
    meat like chicken in the evening with a few mushrooms.
    I ate some sliced ham yesterday which after reading this website i realises it had brown sugar in and other sh**!
    Can any one tell me where im going wrong?

    I would say:

    You are not eating enough in general

    You are not eating enough allowed vegetables

    3 atkins bars
    Cut these out and eat whole foods. These bars cause issues for many people.

    Are you drinking enough water and are you doing any exercise?

      Dump the low-carb junk food and eat real food. Do a search here on the board on "Atkins Bars" - settle in and get comfortable because you're going to get about 10 billion hits that tell you why they're garbage and you should eat real food instead of that ...stuff

      General rule of thumb for success: If it requires a degree in chemical engineering to pronounce it, you probably shouldn't eat it.

        I'd also like to point out that not everybody registers ketones on the sticks. I wouldn't worry a bit about them as long as you're following the plan correctly. I lost about 40 pounds on Atkins and never registered even the faintest bit of ketones.

          Fair enough- and true- but in this case when you're downing 60+ grams of sugar alcohol, odds are, he's really not in ketosis.

          There's no such thing as mythical magical carbs that don't count.

            Do you mean from the 60= grams from the atkin bars?

                Yep. Sure do. Obviously that's going to vary depending on which of the bars you've been eating- but there really is no such thing as carbs that don't count.

                Sugar alcohols have *less* of a blood sugar impact, but they *do* still have an impact and they have a calorie count. How does something that has no impact have an impact? LOL

                  Do not eat the Atkins bars or the Atkins shakes especially during induction.

                  For those first two weeks your system needs to avoid all forms of sugars and starches if it is going to be "tricked" into processing stored fat for energy.

                  Also be sure to drink a LOT of water (plain water) every day. 64oz minimum, 80oz is better though.

                    Have had a really good read about these atkins bars, they are now in the bin!!!!!!
                    Hopefully now I will be on the right track!!
                    will i go into ketosis now?
                    will try to eat some of the veg i should be eating

                      can I just check, club soda is an american term is it just carbonated water? I have just checked myself with ketostix and it looks quite dark, not the full darkness but about mid range on the scale is that ok or should it be darker?

                        Any colour is good, Andrew... actually, darker often (but not always) means that you're not drinking enough water.

                        Ketosis is ketosis - there's not low(light), medium(mid), high(dark) - and you don't lose more weight if it's dark. Ketosis simply means that your body is burning stored fat for fuel.

                              Hey there Andrewglynn,
                              atkin bars aren't good as all above have said.
                              I was researching about them and sugar alchols today as there is a big question over these bars.I TOO were interested in some of these bars as the cravings can be harsh at night.
                              After reading the article it's assured me that they are ''crapola!!''
                              Don't go there......
