  • Jack in the box Breakfast bowls

Has anyone tried the Jack in the Box hearty breakfast bowl? It's really good! I order it without the hash browns in it, and I figured it was low carb. But someone mentioned that the white cheese sauce in it is high in carbs. Does anyone know if this is true?

    Thanks!

I found this 'build your meal' website Jack In The Box - Our Food
However it doesnt look as if you can deduct bits of the item (like on the MacDonald site) and see what the remaining ingredients nutrition works out at.

If it is something you are likely to want to have again I would click on their 'contact us' link and ask them for the individual nutrition information for the ingredients so you can decide if it is worth you risking again!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Jack in the box Breakfast bowls

The original bowl contains sausage crumbles, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash brown sticks... topped with white cheese sauce and shredded cheddar cheese. This whole thing (~10 oz) has 34 carbs, 4 of which are fiber. The hash brown sticks alone (they serve 5 sticks, so probably you get less than that if you get them with the bowl) have 20.3 carbs, 2.2 of which are fiber. So even if you assume they give 5 sticks (~3 oz) and you don't eat those, the rest has 13.7 carbs and 1.8 g of fiber. The sausage and bacon, even if cured and with sugar added, should not have more than 5 carbs (and here I am probably exaggerating) The eggs, let's say they use three (I doubt it's more than that) have almost 1.8 carbs. The shredded cheese... maybe another 2 or so. The rest, 5 g (or more!) are in the white cheese sauce. If the meal comes only with 3 hash brown sticks for example, you would have 12 carbs in the sauce!

I assume you are in induction. During induction, most of your carbs should come from veggies. So even if you eat 20 g of net carbs, at least 11 should be from vegetables. Even skipping the hash browns, you get 12 net carbs in the breakfast bowl, none of which from veggies... and this is in the optimistic case in which they actually serve 5 hash brown sticks!

Re: Jack in the box Breakfast bowls

The only thing that I have ever eaten at Jack in the Box while on Atkins is one of their cheeseburgers, plain and I take the bun off and just eat the burger with a fork.

As to the breakfast bowl I'd just order it minus the hashbrowns and sauce.

              You're welcome.

About the grilled chicken strips, I hope you like them without the intention of actually eating them. I found the ingredients in their foods... here's what's in the grilled chicken:

Hello all... I've been an Atkins forum lurker since I started the diet in September '08 (I'm 30 lbs lighter since then.... yay me). For whatever reason, I registered here just to respond in this thread.

Georgiana is right about the Soy+Milk ingredients in the JitB Grilled Chicken, but upon further investigation at this link, it turns out that there are only 3 carbs to be found in a serving of four Chicken Strips. For me, that's an acceptable fast food dish that's available 24 hours a day.

Anyway, back to the shadows I go.

Thanks Joe! I like them. Even if they aren't real chicken. Ha ha.

                    Glad you delurked, Joe

However if the chicken contains soy and milk ingredients then they really would not be induction food but better left till later in your Atkins journey when you have reached the legumes rung of OWL.
