Sorry for Caps I was writing and writing and did not even pay attention til I was done that it was not in caps so excuse me for that will try to be more careful!

I AM GOING TO BE STARTING MY DIET HOPEFULLY MONDAY MAYBE SUNDAY DEPENDS ON IF I CAN GET EVERYTHING ORGANIZED TOMORROW

ANYWAYS I AM A CAFFEINE ADDICT - MY POISON IS SODA
I HAVE NO PROBLEM QUITTING SODA AND JUST DRINKING WATER AS LONG AS I GOT SOME ICE FOR MY WATER I AM GOOD TO GO WITH THAT

HOWEVER MY BODY STILL NEEDS THE CAFFEINE - WITHOUT IT I LITERALLY GO INTO SHAKES, NAUSEATED TO THE POINT I ACTUALLY PUKE A BUNCH EVEN AFTER EATING NOTHING AT ALL, MIGRAINES AND NOT THE LITTLE KINDS EITHER THE ONES THAT BRING TEARS TO YOUR EYES WHICH MAKES ME WANNA PUKE EVEN MORE -- NOW UNFORTUNANTLY I HAVE 2 CHILDREN AT HOME THAT I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF AND IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO LAY AROUND IN BED FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEING SICK AS I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM

I KNOW I NEED TO CUT THE CAFFEINE OUT AND I WILL WORK ON THAT
IN THE MEAN TIME DO U THINK IT WOULD BE OK TO TAKE 1/2 AN EXCEDRIN EVERY TIME I FEEL A HEADACHE COMING ON - EACH EXCEDRIN HAS 65 MG OF CAFFEINE I CANT TAKE A WHOLE ONE AS ITS TO MUCH CAFFEINE AT ONCE SO IF IM NOT DRINKING SODA I TAKE A 1/2 TABLET AND IT WORKS GOOD FOR 2-3 HOURS - OF COURSE BY WAITING UNTIL I ACTUALLY START FEELING THE SIGNS OF WITHDRAW COMING ALONG ITS KINDA CURBING THE ADDICTION AS IT DOES EVENTUALLY GET TO THE POINT WHERE I NEED TO ONLY TAKE 1 OR 2 1/2 eXCEDRINES PER DAY AND IF I ACTUALLY STAYED ON TRACK WITH IT I BET IT WOULD BREAK THE ADDICTION WITHIN 2 WEEKS OR SO

ANYWAYS I JUST WANTED TO SEE IF TAKING 1/2 AN EXCEDRIN WOULD STOP THIS DIET FROM WORKING - I DONT WANT TO TAKE IN ALL THE EXTRA FATS AND WHAT NOT IF THE EXCEDRIN WILL HALT THE PROCESS

      Re: Caffeine addiction

The way I cut the caffeine out in coffee was to mix regular and decaf for a while and then gradually increase the amount of decaf until, one day, there wasn't any regular left. You could try this with regular and caffeine free diet soda, too, I'm sure.

I found that caffeine stalls my weight loss. In the 4 days since I stopped using regular coffee, I've lost 2 pounds. I hadn't lost any in two weeks before that.

I don't think taking an Excedrin will be an issue. Have you thought about gradually decreasing your caffeine intake vs stopping cold turkey? Just a thought.

          Re: Caffeine addiction

I get very addicted to caffiene too! When I started Atkins I went off it completely, and I was really sick for a few days. After awhile of none, I had a cup of decaf on two consecutive days and it really threw my body off kilter - so I know if affects my blood sugar. And for now I am not having it at all.

In the past, I've gotten off of it though by gradually decreasing the amount I have every day. The missery lasts a lot longer, but it is not as severe as going off all at once. I've decrease the number of cups a day until I get to 1/2 a cup and then give it up.

I've gone through the pattern of getting off it only to get readdicted so many times - ugh!!! I'm hoping I can keep off of it now (but in the back of my mind I'm not sure I can keep it up indefinately)

            Re: Caffeine addiction

lol unfortunantly decreasing never works for me which is why i switched over to the excedrin method because at least then i am getting my caffeine that my body needs but not getting any of the sugars or calories from the soda

i will just do the ice water and excedrin and just take the excedrin only when i feel the onset of a withdraw coming on this way i am only taking what i need because generally within 10 minutse of taking excedrin all my symptoms of withdraw goes away

i suppose the only other problem i will probally have is a carb withdraw but i am determined to do this i really wanna loose a chunk of weight before the summer when i go on vacation - hate this extra chin thing going on here and would really like to be able to fit in some of my favorite clothes again - i have a closet full of nice dress clothes i used to wear to work and church and cant fit in any of them right now - bought 3 brand new shirts and didnt realize i had gained so much weight until i got them home and realized they didnt fit me so those are also in my closet - i have this really nice pastel yellow shirt that i would love to fit into by easter to match my girls

the pain releivers in excedrin are hard on the liver.

I just did the cold turkey. I wrote about it in the addictions section.
2 days of puking, migraines, etc. overall 4 days of feeling like crud. But I made it thru.
You can do it, and if it makes you feel that bad, then you know it is bad for you. It is very much a drug and should be quit. Just like smoking or anything else.

                  Re: Caffeine addiction

Hi there, I actually have not stopped the caffiene use. I know Dr Atkins says to do it, and I know some people may get mad at me for saying that I didn't do it. But the main purpose he says to get off the caffiene is so that you don't get cravings. I dealt with a few cravings in the beginning, whichi s normal in the beginning of induction, but then I stopped getting them all together. The only source of caffiene I have is through Coffee. I have never been a soda drinker or chocolete person. And the caffiene I have had has not affected my weight loss - at all!! I have lost 30 pounds in 41 days. So I am proof that you don't HAVE to get off it...I'm just sayin....

                    Re: Caffeine addiction

well the caffeine i drink is soda (dont even suggest diet as i rather drink water before i drink a diet soda lol)
so with a regular pepsi comes 150 calories per can and on average 8-10 cans per day not to mention the 44 ounce thirst buster i love to get with mountain dew which of course has 50bazillion grams of caffeine in it

anyways will quit the soda - drink the water - and have 1/2 excedrin to curb the caffeine until i can quit it all together
