I have had an Atkins shake or two and snack bar on my induction so far. Although Dr. Atkins personally vouges for these in his book, are they not supossed to be eaten during induction, or is that okay? I'm not sure! Gosh, I just don't want to cheat and then see no progress! Same thing with low-carb dressings that I put on my salads? Only 2 carbs with no sugar, but dressings aren't listed on the actual okay list, neither is mayonaise! Am I being just a bit like over-cautious? Some assistance from the veterans please and thank you!

Dressings first... on page 127, the book says:
Mayo, if homemade, is basically just yolk, oil, vinegar or lemon juice... all of which are legal. If you buy mayo, then it would be ideal if it didn't have added sugar. If it has, make sure it's not very carby. I've used regular Hellmann's mayo when I was in the States and had no problems with it although it has sugar among the ingredients.Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.
The bars and shakes... On page 129 of the book
Bars and shakes stall some people. Moreover, not all have induction-legal ingredients, although they claim so... peanuts for e.g. are not for induction, just to mention the most obvious one. It's better to eat a bar than to eat paella, but it would be even better to eat some meat/cheese/veggies/eggs instead. While convenience foods are good in emergency situations, most of us eat them as a substitute for something sweet... which should not be done.While any of these foods can make doing Atkins easier, don't overdo it."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

[QUOTE=Chef
avoid the bars and shakes, you really need to avoid them. Pure evil.[/QUOTE]
I agree with Chef.... with these convenient meal replacements you never really learn how to eat. Preparation is 75% of the battle in my opinion. Food is cheaper to buy anyways. I could practically buy a steak and some greens for the same price as one of those bars. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Re: I Need Advice Please
Also the bars particularly are very different now than they were in Dr Atkins days.
Better to stick with foods that are allowed for the phase of Atkins you are curently on, so check ingredients lists before deciding to use any 'lowcarb' products.
Even the shakes have milk products in them I think so would not be 'legal' till the 2nd OWL rung/level.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
