  • Need some reassurance...

    Hi everyone,

I'm on my 9th day of induction and (I know it's an Atkins sin) I've weighed myself a few times. The first time I was able to wait until the 5th day on induction and (yay!) I was down 5lbs. Then two days ago (right after the weekend) I was up 2.5 lbs! This morning I was back down .5 lbs.

I probably went a little wayward this weekend (not drinking enough water, a little too much cheese) but I didn't drink alcohol and kept my carbs at 20 g tops.

I've been drinking a lot more water (at least 2L/day) and have decided to cut out Splenda, the shakes/bars, and swap half&half for heavy cream. Hopefully that speeds things up.

I do drink a cup of coffee every morning -I'm sorry, I just can't give up pasta, chocolate, alcohol AND coffee... ; )

    Thanks!!

    Re: Need some reassurance...

Hi there NYCgal! It would be helpful to know your height, current weight, and goal weight as well as see some sample menus of what you have eaten over the last couple days. Also, is it that time of the month?

I have never cut out caffeine and have lost steadily. Dr. Atkins' says we are to avoid excessive caffeine consumption because it can affect weight loss in some people. Since he doesn't say, like he does for other things, that you must not have ANY I have not cut it out. With that said, some wise folks have said if you never cut it out how will you know if it affects your weight loss or not? That's food (or drink) for thought...

Provide some of the info above and we'll be able to respond better.

Thanks for the reply! I can't seem to figure out how to get my signature on my posts but here's what the info is:

      H: 5'8"
      SW: 145
      CW: 142
      GW: 129

An average menu for me looks like this (for week 1):

B: 2 or 3 eggs with a few slices of bacon, coffee with half&half and 2 sweetnlow.

L: salad with cheese, tuna, 2 carb dressing, Atkins bar

      S: Atkins shake

D: steak or chicken with broccoli or more salad

For week 2, this is how I've eaten so far:

B: 3 eggs with cheese (sometimes with mushrooms), coffee with heavy cream, no sweetener

L: chicken ceasar salad (homemade - 5 carbs), small cup of olives and tomatoes

S: SF jello with whipped cream (homemade WC made from heavy cream, no sweetener)

D: Chicken or steak with broccoli/cauliflower

Thanks again - it really does help to get support! And yes...it's the week before that wonderful time.

Cut the coffee and see what happens. Drink plenty of water and log your food to see if you are eating too many carbs. Also, your weight and height stats help because some don't have much to lose so they lose less.

            Re: Need some reassurance...

Thanks everyone - I finally got my signature working.

I don't have that much to lose, so I guess maybe that's it. There's just no way I can cut out coffee working like I do. Hopefully cutting out Splenda and the Atkins products and no more half&half will do the trick.

And yes, it's a little less than a week before TOM so I'm sure that's playing a role.

Not to argue - but - you don't need caffeine when you stick to Atkins, IMO. The natural energy you get is amazing. If you have 13 pounds to lose, maybe it isn't fat afterall but just toning required? I know of someone that is very fit after losing 30 pounds and keeping a LC lifestyle while daily exercising. I mean she is amazingly fit. For me, no matter how much you need to lose, LC is the best for your body and it isn't about weight but fitness, as a lifestyle to be maintained. Good luck!
