  • is there such a thing as "too much fat?"...

    ok - is there such a thing as "too much" fat?

    for dinner I had:

    hamburger = 0 g carbs (not sure of fat, but probably not the leanest)
    shredded mozzarella = 1 g carbs (about 7 g fat)
    1 slice of avocado = 1 g carbs (??? fat)
    fried zucchini (in the same oil as the hamburger was made) = 3 g carbs
    about 2.5 - 3 tbsp of REAL mayo = 0 g carbs

    so i had only 5 grams carbs for the meal - but all that fat...i know fat is "ok" and actually NEEDED on this woe but do you think that is too many fatty foods? i don't know the amount of fat - i'm just looking at the fatty foods

    hamburger
    mozzarela
    avocado
    mayo
    zucchini in oil

    what do you all think?

    btw - i DO exercise about 4 x week and i'm on rung 1

    Well, yes there is too much fat.. Actually if the calories you eat, let's say in fat form, are more than the ones you break down for energy, your body produces ketones, but they all are food-derived ketones.
    You need to take less than your daily need of calories from food (in fat form) so that your body will replenish the difference from your own fat cells, hence you drop weight

      Possible yes but actually quite hard. Fat comes with a fullness factor that carbs will never do so therefore normally if we can read our body signals - I am full - I am hungry - correctly we will do pretty good on a high fat diet.
      I think your supper looks pretty good to me. You do not say how much meat you ate.

          hehe...when it comes to burgers, in greece a burger is something along 80gr of beef.. we do not have the quarter pounders or 1/2 pounders whatever their call is and stuff you got in the US..

            Personally Keriann, I think your meal looks yummy! In fact, it's the kind of thing I would eat. Definitely not too much fat!

            So this was your dinner. Let's say for lunch you had a nice tuna salad (i.e., mixed with mayo) over a bed of lettuce with an oil & vinigar dressing on it (a fave lunch of mine) and, for breakfast you had bacon, eggs and a cup of coffee with heavy cream.

            Now look at your fat intake for the day...
            And do you know what??? It STILL isn't too much fat!!
            So... eat up and enjoy. Keep to the good-for-you fats and you'll be just fine!

              As long as you are not taking in like 4000 calories, you will be fine. Since I have increased my fat intake, I have been back on the fast track. Good luck!

                This link is to a forum experiment where the subject is trying to eat 4,500-5,000 calories of mostly fat daily. An interesting experiment but I don't think I'd have the stomach for it.
