  • Gaining weight on atkins

A friendly hello to everyone! i am new to this site but not new to atkins. Let me introduce myself, my name is Emily. I was once 190 pounds lost 60 pounds, and then gained a bit back. here i am, on my 21st day of induction and ive noticed a small problem, over the last week i have gained 2 pounds. Has anyone else experienced this? I had read somewhere that calories are still a factor no matter what and perhaps im having too many calories in my diet.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how something like this can happen? or perhaps how i can get out of this?

Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Could you post some menus? Don't forget to specify quantities for every food. How much do you have to lose, what is your current weight, how tall are you?

      thank you for the link.
      i am 5'5
the first time i did atkins i was 190 pounds, i had got down to 130 pounds, but gained 27 back in 2 years time.
i started 21 days ago at 157 pounds, i am now 146 pounds, i would like to lose 16 pounds.

heres a sample of what i ate today:3 scrambled eggs (3 large eggs table spoon of cream and just enough butter to cover the pan) w/ low carb ketchup( 1 tablespoon)

      1 cheese string
      1 pepperoni stick

for dinner i had pork tenderloin, it was cooked with butter but i had only used it for flavor and dumped out the butter. i also had cauliflower mash(2 cups), with a bit of herb and garlic cream cheese(2 tablespoons),butter(1 teaspoon),and cheese (1/4th cup)and bacon (1 piece) in it

You have lost 11 lbs in 3 weeks! That is almost half (41%) of the weight you want to lose! One typically loses 5-10% of it in induction, so 41% it's great. Your gain is probably caused by normal weight oscillation. Do you weigh daily? Did you eat more sodium before your weigh-in day? Is TOM around?

As to your menu... I don't understand why you are avoiding butter. I didn't enter your foods in Fitday, but you do realize around 65% of your calories should come from fat during induction, right? Are you close to that?

Make sure you keep cheese at max 4 oz per day.

Why do you stay in induction instead of moving to OWL? Since you have so little to lose and you are obviously not metabolically resistant, starting OWL would allow you to keep losing weight while also learning which foods are good for you and which are not, so that you can maintain your weight loss for life.

You seemed to have skipped a meal as well. Don't starve yourself in hopes that this will help. It is usually quite counter productive. Do you get any exercise in and measure as well as weigh?
Congratulations with your losses so far. You're doing well. We all hit some bumps.

            Hi Emily...

I concur with what the other ladies have said here. You really didn't have lunch, unless that was the pepperoni stick and the cheese string...which is not actually "lunch"...lol.

And don't avoid the butter! Butter is our friend...lol.

It takes time for us all to get over the "fat is bad, low fat is good" brainwashing that has effected us all to some degree over the years.

You don't have much weight to lose and so to lose 11 lbs in 3 weeks is GREAT!

            I'm in Canada too!

Are you exercising and if so, what kind of exercises are you doing? High protein plus resistance training builds muscle with is denser and heavier than fat. That is the main reason I only want to weigh myself once a month. The weight doesn't matter as much as the size and girth. If your clothes are still getting looser and you are feeling better, then I wouldn't look to hard into this if you are working out daily. If you aren't, what are you drinking? Sometimes artificial sweeteners can have an adverse effect on some dieter's weight loss. Just sayin'...
