Don't be so quick to react.

All things in moderation. Also- do a little research into WHO is putting that video out. You might be surprised.

I can pull articles and arguments that would have you *NEVER* drinking water again because it's "poisonous" and "deadly".

Remember- all things in moderation. You can't really believe that splenda is worse for you than most of the stuff you've been eating for years and years and years, do you?!

Yes didn't the sugar association put forth those findings?

Stands to reason, Splenda is a threat to their bottom line.

Re: Holy Crap - Splenda.. UNBELIEVABLE

When I started Atkins, Splenda was newly on the market and being touted as the "best" artificial sweetener and it was also hinted that it was natural because it was "made from sugar."

I was skeptical of Splenda and the other artificial sweeteners, partly because I'm not a fan of anything "artificial".

Currently I'm seeing type of marketing hype with the stevia derivatives, like Truvia. They claim to be natural because they are made from stevia. However if you read the label carefully, it is erythitol---a sugar alcohol.

So, I figure it's just a matter of time before we begin seeing the negative things about the stevia derivatives.

Re: Holy Crap - Splenda.. UNBELIEVABLE

              Here's a great source . www.sweetpoison.com
              Sucralose

Splenda, also known as sucralose, is an artificial sweetener, which is a chlorinated sucrose derivative. Facts about this artificial chemical are as follows:
              Pre-Approval Research
Pre-approval research showed that sucralose caused shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) and enlarged liver and kidneys.
              Recent Research
A possible problem with caecal enlargement and renal mineralization has been seen in post approval animal research.
              Sucralose Breaks Down
Despite the manufacturer's mis-statements, sucralose does break down into small amounts of 1,6-dichlorofructose, a chemical which has not been adequtely tested in humans. More importantly, sucralose must break down in the digestive system. If it didn't break down and react at all (as the manufacturer claims), it would not chemically-react on the tongue to provide a sweet taste. The truth is that sucralose does break down to some extent in the digestive system.
              Independent, Long-Term Human Research
None. Manufacturer's "100's of studies" (some of which show hazards) were clearly inadequate and do not demonstrate safety in long-term use.
              Chlorinated Pesticides
The manufacturer claims that the chlorine added to sucralose is similar to the chlorine atom in the salt (NaCl) molecule. That is not the case. Sucralose may be more like ingesting tiny amounts of chlorinated pesticides, but we will never know without long-term, independent human research.
              Conclusion
While it is unlikely that sucralose is as toxic as the poisoning people are experiencing from Monsanato's aspartame, it is clear from the hazards seen in pre-approval research and from its chemical structure that years or decades of use may contribute to serious chronic immunological or neurological disorders.
It is very important that people who have any interest in their health
stay aware from the highly toxic sweetener aspartame and other questionable sweeteners such as sucralose (Splenda), and acesulfame-k (Sunette, Sweet & Safe, Sweet One). When you have lived as long as I have, you see things that once were scientifically touted as absolute poison proven to be okay. And vice versa.

Remember when butter was the worst thing you could eat, and margarine the most healthy? Remember the saccharine and cyclamate scare. Remember how badly eggs were maligned?

I can feel that aspartame is bad for me... an unnatural tingling on my tongue. And my feeling is that sugar is a deadly poison.

Splenda is not the most healthful thing I could eat, but it keeps me on my healthful diet.

It's a matter of weighing your options and choosing the best of what's available.

Stevia itself is not a problem. Stevia is a plant. I grow it during the summer. The granulated version is mixed with various things that I can't vouch for, but the actual Stevia is alright.

Like everyone else says, eventually we will get to the truth. Until then, what other alternatives do we have?

The alternative is to be as informed as possible, scrutinize the source, weigh the risks and benefits, then make a decision that you can live with.

I meant sugar alternatives, but that works too.

It also applies to sugar alternatives because there are so many now on the market---each on touting their "health benefits", their "low glycemic index" and "minimal effect on blood sugar", their "natural ingredients", etc. In other words, everyone wants your money.

So really read up on these and make an informed decision.
