  • Bought an Exercise Bike Today

By the time I got the bike assembled, I felt like I had already had a major workout!

I have been walking, but wanted an exercise I could do inside when the weather is nasty.

Also, I realized that I can burn the same amount of calories in ten minutes of moderate bicycling as I can in a half hour of walking.

I did ten minutes on the bike this evening, and it was a REAL workout. I kind of scared myself because my heart was beating too hard and I got a bit disoriented and dizzy. So I backed off the speed and took it easy until the ten minutes were up.

I had hoped to do 20 minutes twice a day, but it looks like I'd better start with ten minutes twice a day.

I am looking forward to getting into shape again after a LOT of years of being overweight and sedentary.

Congratulations on your new bike and putting it together. I am looking for an exercise machine also. I think maybe the eliptical.

Yes dont work yourself too hard. I think its a good idea to ease into it.
I bought a bike too but when i got it home it was faulty and there were parts missing. Really put a downer on my motivation. I got a refund and am looking out for something different. Until then Power walking.

          Thanks, Desertthorn!

Scaleski, the elliptical is probably a very good choice. I got the bike for the lower body workout because I also have a Torso Developer--that has been hidden in my closet for years. I have started using it a few reps a day... working up a little every couple of days.

Jessyd, that had to be a crushing disappointment! Hope your next purchase is a great one and that you will enjoy using it.

Good for you! It's important to find an exercise you like doing (and are able to do!) so that you will stick to it.

I bought a mountain bike that I use in warmer months to do exercise outdoors. I bring it to the local track and bike around it (was also terrific this past summer because I didn't have to waste gasoline on short errands and things like that.) In the winter, I use it indoors---there is an attachment called a cycle trainer or a cycle motivator that converts a road bike to a stationary bike.
