  • Low Carb & Social Life

I regularly go out to to eat with my friends but since starting the diet I always decline becasue I know that I wont be able to eat anything. My friends are getting a little angry and I feel like I am losing my social life a little because of the diet restrictions - especially being a vegetarian as well, the options are a bit slimmer for low carb.

Does anybody else have this issue? How do you tackle it?

    Thanks

wow, low carb and vegetarian is tough!!!
I don't have a life anyway, so it's not a problem for me!!!

Man, I really have nothing to help you with today!!!

This is an interesting combo platter question. I hope someone has an answer, I am now curious!

How about having some good proteins before you go out then enjoy yourself with a delicious salad. Most places will serve salad. When I am going to a place I am not familiar with I try to research their menu. Many places have menus online now. Then I plan my order at home so I do not get side tracked when I get there. You need your social life so why not invite your friends to the movies, for a walk, to the spa. Some none foodie things too once in a while.

The greek salad looks good, but ask them about the dressing (it might have "illegal" ingredients) or just ask them to bring it separately (then you can decide whether you're gonna have it or not).

You can also order the caesar salad and ask them to hold the bacon and the bread crumbs. This would not be a problem in most places. Again, careful with the dressing.

The side of seasoned vegetables also sounds good.

Thank you so much Georgiana for taking the time to have a look at the menu!!

I was anxious about what to get but yes at least I have got an option and wont be forced to order a carb loaded meal. I think my friends are embarassed going to eat with me becasue i always ask the waiter too many questions lol

At least dressing on the side isnt too much to ask!

              You're welcome!

There's nothing embarrassing in asking questions about what you're paying for. It would be the same if you had a food allergy or if you were a Muslim or Hindu.

I often order the salad without dressing and make a nice one at home and take it with me. That way you know you're safe

Thats such a fantastic idea. Then you know whats going into your body. I wouldnt even know how to make my own dressing ...

..And my friends would probably make fun of me for the whole night if i brought anything to a restaurant. I am in my twenties and apparantly its not acceptable..

Personally i think its a very wise thing to do but try telling them that!

                    They wouldn't really notice ;-)

For a simple dressing, mix 3 parts olive oil with 1 part cider vinegar and shake. Put in a small bottle (I buy tiny cosmetic bottles from the pharmacist) and pour on. Takes two seconds! Anyway, you can say that you don't like the dressing so have bought your own. Just do it! So what if they laugh! They will get used to it and you will be fitting in your favourite clothes
