  • HFCS - have any of you seen...

have any of you actually seen the HFCS site? it's an absolute LAUGH at how these people get away with trying to convince the public that this is "healthy" for you - even for anyone not following low-carb, one should know that it's NOT good for you...

The Truth About High Fructose Corn Syrup - HFCS Facts - Get Sweet Smart

it's incredibly scary & sad that some people will actually believe this.

i mean, c'mon - "Sweeteners play an important role in a healthy, balanced diet" really? who believes that?

all in all it just really saddens me that people will and do believe this.

It's no different than the Tobacco industry telling us nicotine isn't addictive. I just saw one of the commercials yesterday... I almost spat out my drink... ARE YOU KIDDING? What are they trying to do? I think it's unbelieable...

Here is a YouTube video of one of them:

"Safe in moderation"? Hello? What about if you eat/drink it everyday, a few times a day? I bet the serving size is rediculous as well.

Re: HFCS - have any of you seen...

That's what kills me about this country. Atkins has been proven numerous times to be the fastest (and easiest) way to lose weight, but the government and researchers have sold out to special interest groups to try to kill the diet. I actually read one study that showed that Atkins was superior, BUT they emphasised that if you quit the diet then the weight would come back. (Wouldn't that be the case with any diet?) I guess the study had results that they did not want, so they had to throw that disclaimer in there. Instead of trying to fight obesity, we are more worried about trying to save the snack food and grain industry. Four or five years ago when atkins was at its peak, you could go into any store and find numerous low carb products that are not available now. Companies and restaurants were offering low carb options making it easier for all of us to eat healthy the atkins way. There is still a whole lot of people following the diet, but the special interest groups did their job and crippled the diet the best they could.

How can it be considered a natural food (along with sugar) when it uses a bunch of chemicals to make it? I guess honey it the only "natural" sweetener according to that site. Good post!

Re: HFCS - have any of you seen...

So if the average American consumes 12tsp of HFCS a day (which I think is the estimate) how much potential mercury is that. Yuck.
This stuff is every where guys. Very hard to avoid. And what bugs me is that you can find HFCS in stuff while on the label they may advertise it as "No Sugar Added".
I agree with you NoDef this is one of those areas where economy and lobbying are prioritized over health.
