  • The scale won't budge....

I started induction on the 1st and did not have an accurate weight so I have no idea how much I actually weighed when I started. On the 17th, I bought a scale and weighed in at a whopping 236.6. I now weigh 226 and have since Saturday (4 days ago). I haven't cheated so I am not sure what gives. Is this normal? Is my body just in shock?

I was so motivated because the scale was moving everyday since I bought it but now it just reads the same thing. How long does it take to pick up the pace again and are there any tips to get things going?

I am still doing induction BTW.

    Thanks!

Maybe if you post a day's menu we will be able to help out more. But hey, 10 lbs is great! A little stall in the third week is actualy kinda common, it happened to me as well. Don't get discouraged! You will start losing again soon
Weight loss currently on hold! Baby due 11/22/09

        Re: The scale won't budge....

I started recording my food, and found that I was eating about 1000-1600 calories/day, and about 20-30 carbs/day. I'm close to my goal weight, and what I thought was a dream but not awfully likely. I was about 5 pounds lower than I currently am, but it happened after I stopped eating for over a week because of a gall bladder attack. I gained the 5 pounds when I changed eating habits because of a tooth problem. Now I want the 5 pounds back off and they aren't coming off! Any clues?

          Re: The scale won't budge....

You should not weigh yourself more than once a week. I weigh the first thing monday morning in my boxers to get the most accurate measurement. Your weight is said to fluctuate 2 pounds or so throughout the day etc.

Also weight loss, it appears, tends to NOT be linear. Therefore if you are like me and most people here you will lose in spurts. It seems that you may lose, and lose, then nothing for a week or two then boom lose some more.

Don't obsess over the scale. Pay attention to things like how you feel, and how your clothes fit. Also measure yourself. I lose inches before the weight drops normally. This week, I am noticing my belt getting more loose. Therefore I expect my weigh in next Monday to be a good one. If not, no big deal because I know if my clothes are getting too big that means I am losing something.

Good luck and it sound slike you are doing good. Remember this is a marathon NOT a sprint.

My max weight goal is 175 and Im trying to keep between 165 to 170.

thanks for taking the time for a complete response. It was very good information. I should have given a little more information. I have stalled at 5pounds over my lowest for a few months now. That's why i finally decided to record my food. I suspect it's fairly reflective of what I had been doing.
So I'm not sure it's just a matter of being patient. I'm wondering if I eat too much protein in comparison to carbs? Can that cause stagnation? Or too few calories (but my stomach really doesn't want any more calories. I am not hungry). I'm trying to learn waht are some of the details that don't matter at the beginning, but can make a different at the end.

Congrats on the progress, and rest assured you are normal. Almost everyone hits a wall sometime between weeks 3 and 5.

Now that you have a nice shiny new scale, get a nice shiny tape measure. During my slow down (a stall is 4 weeks of no loss and other things), I was stuck at the same weight for 10 days. I was losing inches though, and feeling great. Losing inches is just another way to measure progress. Keep plugging along, you will be fine.

                Re: The scale won't budge....

I started monitoring all the food I eat, including calories & carbs. As well as figuring out exactly how long I have been stalled.
Here's what I can figure out.
I went on anti-candida, and then switched to Atkins when anti-candida was over. I lost about 10 pounds (got to 130). Before stabilizing at some weight, I had a gall bladder attack (May 2007) and lost 5 more pounds (about 123-124)
Stayed at 123-125 for several months (until January 2007). Was eating about 30carbs/day I think.
I had tooth problems that led me to a root canal the first week of Janaury. I changed my eating patterns then, mostly substituting nut butters for meat for ease in chewing. I thought I stayed within the same amount of carbs, relatively speaking.
                I gained 5 pounds. (127-129)
I then cut back on my carbs to 20 or less. No effect.
I've started upping my carbs back into the 20-30 range. No effect.

Any thoughts? Does this make sense. It seems like I've been stalled for more than a month.

                  Re: The scale won't budge....

Maybe if you list the actual foods you are eating now - including quantities and which phase of Atkins you are at we can give some insight?

Also - how tall are you and what is your current and goal weight?

If you are close to your goal then maybe you should get your bodyfat measured in case you are already at an ideal bodyfat % for your frame.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

is there a way I can post my diet diary. I'm not sure how an excell spreadsheet will copy and paste.

I am very close to goal. I'm 5'4". I'd like to be under 125, and have been there for several months without problems. Then in the space of a month I added 5 pounds, and seem to have stabilized there. Right now I'm just under 130. If I have to get used to the idea of being under 130, instead of under 125, I'll probably be fine from a health standpoint.

Good suggestion about measuring body fat, atlhough I suspect body fat isn't the problem. Even at 124, I have a signficant stomach. Classic insulin resistant type body. Nothing unhealthy, just significant. I never wear outfits that are fitted or requiring a blouse tucked in without a jacket or sweater for camoflage. Probably adds a couple inches to my waist (currently 31.5 - but I never know how much stock to put in that because waist measurements are so varied even if people have a flat stomach. I suspect with a flat stomach -which I haven't had since puberty - my waist would be about 28-29. But I may be way off.)
