  • I've been asked a question

    Hello y'all!!
A co-worker who is also on Atkins, has asked me "if you ate a piece of regular ole' pizza and followed it with a fiber supplement, why wouldn't it negate some of the carbs in the pizza?" I know it would be 'bad' eating but factually, carb wise......I dunno. Any ideas?

Re: I've been asked a question

    Umm...

Okay, let's see if I got this right... So you eat the pizza, which has a lot of carbs and little fiber, so a lot of net carbs. Then you eat something which is almost pure fiber (e.g. flax), so the total carbs equal the number of carbs coming from fiber, so it has zero net carbs. Right?

Let's say the pizza has 20g total carbs, 2g of which are fiber, so that's 18g net carbs. The flax has 4g total carbs, 4g of which are fiber, so 0g net carbs. Then if you add these two you get 24g total carbs and 6g of fiber, so 18g net carbs... exactly what you had from the pizza.

Does this make sense? You cannot have a negative number of net carbs... unless you're eating antimatter.
