  • Ketone test strip question

I am on day 5 of induction. I just tested today and only have a moderate amount of ketones present in urine.

I have been careful to keep net carbs at 10-15 per day or less. Shouldn't I be dark purple by now?

If anyone else had this experience, please indicate on the poll.

Hey you know what? I was always concerned about that too, but then members here gently reminded me that ketones are ketones and it doesn't matter the color of the strip. All that matters is that any change in color means you are in Ketosis. Isn't that cool?

The color on the stix means little to nothing. It's like being pregnant--either you are or you are not. I lost 50 pounds in 90 days and never tested more than a trace and that shade not very often. On the other hand, you can be showing dark purple and not losing an ounce.

The only time I showed dark purple was when I was sick and vomiting and dehydrated. I finally threw the rest of mine away. There are too many variables as to make them useless in a lot of cases.

          Masamba,

I'm getting the darkest results possible and I'm not losing right now. Drinking water like a fish and exercising. Depth of color does not matter. I'm upping the carbs to tweak things a little. Don't keep your net carbs at 10!! Double that. You can't get in all the veggies you need at that level.

I agree with Everlosing~~eat more carbs. Dr. A said up to 20 carbs per day. Eat some veggies!

eatting too much fat will make them dark purple too... sometimes they are lighter because you are burning the ketones... ok so ketones are like your fat cells burning off at a rate so high you can use all the energy so your body pee“s them out... if you are exercising your body is using the ketones as energy and thefore does not need to dump so much... so good job... at least this is my understanding
