  • PCOS, birth control, and no weight loss

I have done the Atkins diet a few times before and have previously had great results. Well recently I was diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor put me on YAZ birth control pills to try to stabilize my hormone levels. I tried induction for 6 weeks and lost only 5 lbs so being fustrated I stopped. Three months later I'm trying again and I have been in induction for 2 weeks. I lost 4 lbs the first week and nothing since. I feel I know the diet to the T and I follow it without any rule breaking; however I can't seem to lose weight and I'm wondering if its because my oral birth control pill is interfering..? Can anyone please help?!

I was going to suggest you post in the PCOS forum as well but I see you have already hopefully you will get some more 'educated' responses there than I can give you.

How much weight in total are you trying to lose? A loss of between 5% and 10% in the first 2 weeks of induction is said to be 'normal'. what percentage did your 4 pounds represent?

Or if you don't want to post that number take a look at the chart in chapter 13 of DANDR to see what degree of metabolic resistance to weightloss you have.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: PCOS, birth control, and no weight loss

Thank you so much for responding! I am trying to lose a total of 30lbs and I have 26lbs to go. So my 4lb weight loss is between the high and average metabolic resistance.

Also I know ketone sticks don't work for everyone, however they have always worked for me. I used to be able to jump up a color every day or 2 however now I cant get out of the small section which is the lightest pink. Three months ago when I first went back on Atkins I had jumped up to the 2nd darker pink in about 3/4 days. Then I was put on provera to induce a period and I instantly jumped back down to the small and since then I basically have been on oral birth control pills (which I was never on the first times I did the Atkins diet). So I'm half way convinced its my birth control, which I don't even want to be on, but its supposed to be helping. So basically I don't want to make the decision to stop taking it because I think its interfering with my ketosis and wind up wrong.
