    Re: cocoa? is it allowed?

This is one of the foods that are up for debate. Some people think cocoa is a spice, like cinnamon, and would be allowed on Induction. Many recipes using cocoa use 1 or two tablespoons per 1 serving. But if you look at recipes containing other spices like cinnamon, the amounts are 1/2 or 1 teaspoon for 6-8 servings.

As Megs suggested - if you are treating it as a spice then maybe one teaspoon's worth for several servings would be an appropriate amount to use on induction.

For larger amounts you need to wait till you are at the nuts/seeds rung/level of OWL

I am one that takes the other side of the debate. I have this friend who is my sage, my guru when it comes to Dr A and she posted on this board the following

cocoa poder is considered a spice by the Atkins books written while Dr Atkins was alive

and actually bakers chocolate is just as induction friendly a food as mayo is it is made from a fat and a spice both legal. mayo is a fat egg and vinegar all3 induction legal making them both induction legal. go look on your lists you will be amazed mayo isn't there. It is what you do with that chocolate that determines if your usage of it is legal.

I agree, Dessertthorn, we can treat cocoa as a spice but we need to then stick to the sort of quantities that spices are usually used in recipes.

Most dishes with, for example, cinnamon added as a spice do not contain anything like a tablespoon of cinnamon per serving!!
