I have a very bad case of the flu, with 103 fever. Docotr says I must take medication to bring down fever and need to take it with food. I can't bear the thought of eating. have mostly just been drinking herbal tea. Dr. said try some crackers or toast. I'm only on rung 3 of OWL with 30 net carbs. I feel so bad, that I think I really do need to take the advil dr recommends. I want to do as little damage to myself on this WOE as possible though. I was thinking of asking my husband to look for some low carb bread and eating a peice of toast - and hope it wont take me out of ketosis. Any other ideas?

When you're sick, you need to focus on what will make you better, not be concerned with weight loss.

Oh, and get a flu shot next year!

Yeah, when I'm sick all bets are off. I do whatever it takes to make me feel better.
Have you ever made oopsies? I wouldn't even think about making those when I'm sick but maybe you could get your husband to do it for you.
Otherwise, I'd just eat a piece if toast and get better.

Yep. Especially with the flu. People do die from the flu in this day and age.

Make a flax wrap in the microwave, fill it with some meat and cooked veggies... and you are safe.

Soup is also good when you're sick.

            Hi

Sorry you are so sick . You can still get well on Atkins!

I would take pain killer to bring the temp down and eat something legal. A doctor would say eat dry toast or the likes, that’s the normal. Try one of these Muffin in a minute buns, slice and toast it?! That would be my desperate measure. I have not tried these muffins as they don’t appeal but it may help you out. Also chicken broth is fab when your ill, make it yourself and its legal.

Getting to the stage you are, and eating bread would be a no no for me, and I would feel worse as a result.

Your virus will pass, regardless of toast or not.

            Feel better soon.

You can also look for Alvarado Street brand "flax essentials" bread in your local store. It's made with REAL ingredients and has a net of 6 grams per slice. A nice cup of chicken veggie soup might be nice too. Hope you feel better soon!

thanks for the suggestions - i managed to eat some eggs. unfortunately, i feel so weak i don't think i could possibly make it to the store or cook anything. my husband did get me some bread - but he got whole grain sourdough and it is 19 net carbs a slice - so so far I have not eaten it. i guess he doesn't get the look for low carbs idea or maybe that was just waht the store had

                    Re: sick

thanks - I'm strating to feel a little better - but this is a really bad thing I have - it has really taken the wind out of my sails. My eating has not been good - I haven't eaten anything not allowed, but I definately have not been eating all the things I should be eating. All I ate today was a tomato with a little mozarrella cheese, pretty much b/c it was the only thing in the house that I could deal with trying to eat. When I get better I am going to have to get back fully into this WOE.

                      Re: sick

It's okay not to eat when you are sick. Your body is too busy fighting off the flu to try to digest food. Just make sure to drink, drink, drink. You can not go without liquids.

Drink up your tea and feel better soon. This is a lifestyle, so you will have to learn how to work around obstacles to this way of eating.

Thanks SunnySmile. This certainly has become a real obstical for me. I went of Atkins for 2 whole days - ate lots of sugar - what started with chicken soup with flour and sugar in it morphed into coke etc. And now I'm not even in ketosis anymore. This is the first time I've really gone way off Atkins since starting after 5 months ago - and going back on Induction for a few days feels very daunting - especially since I still really do no feel like eating veggies. At least I'm feeling a little better now - still not completely over this though.

I wish you a speedy recovery! Turkey thighs cooked in water with aromatics make a great broth that is induction legal if you take out the veggies when you're down cooking it. i like to add fresh chopped celery back in at serving time for some crunch and substance. You can eat a lot of celery with a very small carb impact!
