I bought a diet pill called fentra phen, it contains no caffiene and it does contain phenylalanine, which doctor atkins says to take for appetite and cravings. I was wondering though if on Atkins you are allowed to take diet pills? Will they mess up ketosis? It doesn't have sugar or starch as far as I know. It supposed to give you energy, but I don't know if it will mess with blood sugar ect... Does anybody else out there take diet pills? Do they seem to be ok for Atkins? I just seem a little blah latley and need a boost. Any info would be appreciated, thanx,

I am new to this board , so I will try to post appropriatley.\

    Hi Choquette!
If I were you, I'd steer very clear of diet pills of any sort. Most of them don't work and are a waste of money.
If you're feeling blah... I'm wondering if you're eating enough, or enough carbs? Sticking within 20 g carbs per day doesn't mean eating none or very very few (I know this may not be the case). Also, are you taking your supplements and getting your three cups of veggies in?

You know, if a diet pill really worked, it would be on the front page of every paper in the world, I mean thats really news for a good portion of the population. All diet pill say, "this pill, along with diet and exercise will help you lose weight - Diet and Exercise will do the job without the pill.
Save your money, I've been on this board for years and not one of the big losers used diet pills.....They just used DANDR

No i don't take supplements. I don't have clue which brand to buy. I have heard that multivitamins are just a gimmick. I also can't seem to find any atkins nutritional supplements like #3 online. But I will keep looking. We don't have grocery stores or pharmacies here. So I go out onc every 6 months for the day. I might ask someone to take a quick look for me though next time there out. Thanks for the advice though, I won't take them.

Actually, Dr. Atkins recommended L-glutamine for sugar cravings, not phenylalanine.

Multivitamins are not a gimmick. I thought the same until I realized/accepted that they actually help me with the weight loss. Here is why:
Food can be converted into fat or energy. You can either store what you eat, which means you will probably put on weight, or you can use it for energy. Whether food is burned or stored is determined by a number of chemical reactions that take place in your body. These are activated by enzymes, which are, in turn, dependent upon vitamins and minerals. Therefore, if you are deficient by even a small amount in certain vitamins and minerals, you will gain weight.

Here is information on the supplements one should take:

Another nice sticky about vitamins and supplements is this one:

For the multivitamin, Centrum Silver is one (of the many) that has no iron... which is what the book recommends.
"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

I have been taking chromium and L-Glutamine for a couple of months. I seem to have more energy, though it may be unrelated. I am with the others, steer clear of diet pills. THe WOE works. Good luck!
