  • Using Necta Sweet (Saccharin)

I just started Atkins five days ago. I have been using Necta Sweet tablets to sweeten by tea three times a day. I use two tablets (.18g carbs each) in each cup. I know the book says to use no more than 3 packs of sweeteners per day. I am assuming this refers to powdered forms of sweeteners that contain more carbs. Are the 6 Necta Sweet tablets too many?

I think a pack would be the same as two pills.

I interpret that rule in DANDR as meaning we should limit servings of all sweeteners to 3, regardless of which kind of sweetener it is and whether it has more or less carbs. I think one sweetener pill equates to one teaspoon of the spoonable splenda which would be the equivalent of half a packet as it has different bulking ingredients.

So 2 pills = 1 serving in my mind.

I also count each serving of any already sweetened food (processed or home made)as well as in drinks in my count of 3 maximum per day

Since we are talking sweeteners...Has anyone had problems with Stevia? I used some last night in my green tea and I had a reaction...Difficulty breathing (slight, like the beginning of an asthma attack, but I don't have asthma) and coughing...Some nasty stuff in my throat when I woke up this morning (sorry about that ). Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks Desertthorn. I hesitated a long time before buying it cause it is really expensive in Canada and it finally went on special. This is the first time I used it . Guess it is back to sugar twin for me (splenda does not do it for me)

Saccharin is fine according to Dr Atkins

                Artificial Sweeteners
You must determine which artificial sweeteners agree with you, but the following are allowed: sucralose (marketed at Splenda®), saccharin, cyclamate, acesulfame-K
