Re: deviled eggs
Warbishop, without looking it up, and going on memory, I believe that Dr. Atkins recommended mayonnaise and the dry powdered mustard.
Be careful with it. It's hot.

Re: deviled eggs
When I make deviled eggs, I use the actual prepared mustard from the store... it only takes a drop to get the flavour you need. And, of course, I use enough mayo to make the yokes nice and moist

Re: deviled eggs
Mayonnaise has vinegar, too, so if you have a problem with yeast and do the yeast-free diet, you have to ditch all condiments, including mayo. I know 'cause I had to do the diet several times, and until I was really strict, I couldn't overcome the yeast overgrowth.Originally posted by Sunny_0ne View PostWarbishop, without looking it up, and going on memory, I believe that Dr. Atkins recommended mayonnaise and the dry powdered mustard.

Warbishop--if you don't have a yeast problem, don't worry about it. Men have them much less frequently than women. You would probably only have to worry about yeast if you had had lots of rounds of antibiotics in your lifetime.People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: deviled eggs
I mix a little sugar free sweet pickle relish with the mayo, mustard and a little salt and pepper. You could probably use dill pickle relish also.
Some finely chopped red onion?
Here is a recipe for Mayo if you don't want to use vinegar. It uses lemon juice instead, but has a little lemon flavor
MAYO
1 whole egg
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika, optional
1/2 teaspoon Mrs. Dash Table Blend, optional
2 tablespoon lemon juice
1 1/2 cups oil
Put the chopping blade in your food processor and add everything except the oil. Process about 5 seconds. With the processor running, very slowly let the oil drizzle in a steady stream through the feed tube. Blend just until the mayonnaise is thick for a creamier mayonnaise. Blend an additional 2-3 minutes for a much thicker mayo.

Re: deviled eggs
Thank you guys very much for the nice replies. To the point. all wonderful.
the reason I was asking the question is this........
The first time I was on this diet, I didnt lose much until after I went on the egg version of the diet, or so i call it, for about 4 days. For some reason it helped me get going. Right now I am experiencing a stall, or seems like it. I'm still losing but slowly. Like a pound a week. Not what I am ok with but might be the raod I must follow. But the last time, once I got going, it was faster. So Im figuring its something I'm eating. Not to mention, not matter how strict I am, I seem to have trouble. However, the high fat version with limited calories, like the egg version sure seems to work for me. But... it sucks.
Now that being said. Here is the next concern. I am a diabetic. Insulin resistant. My sugar is stable now and in the normal range, but for about 2 years there was a rash on my leg that would never go away. I was never sure why. Went to the Doc and he prescribed a steroid cream. He said it was dry skin. I knew that was wrong right off, but he thought he knew more. Anyway, now that I am on this diet again, it has almost disappeared. I believe it could have been a fungal problem, possibly but not sure.
Anyway. I am considering trying the egg verion or some form of it in order to beat this. But I dont have all my thoughts together. So, I'm clarifying.
I do agree that mayo has vinegar but I think I did find one brand that didnt but I cant recall. But i agreee, if i have a fungal problem, then no good that will do me.
So in a case like that, would I need just hard boiled eggs? Wow, that would suck.
I dont my mind has a handle on the proper approach here.

Re: deviled eggs
Warbishop, this WOE is really frustrating, we lose a great deal, then suddenly nothing. then suddenly we're losing big pounds again and then nothing. Don't start tweeking it, cause that seems to make it worse, instead stay off the scales for a week, make sure your drinking your water and exercising and the pounds will really start to go again.
Don't ask why, just enjoy

Your rash does seem like a fungal problem. You have to be especially careful since you are diabetic.Originally posted by warbishop View PostThank you guys very much for the nice replies. To the point. all wonderful.

I didn't know that some skin problems I had were because of yeast until I did the strict yeast-free diet and the skin problems went away completely along with the other symptoms. I had been prescribed steroid creams and another prescription cream, neither of which helped at all.
If you really have a yeast or fungal problem, you need to do a really strict program, which includes nothing fermented (pickles, olives, soy sauce) nothing with vinegar, no mushrooms, no cheese, no dairy of any kind, no fruit, no sugar, no dry granular Splenda (you can use liquid Splenda) dry herbs, coffee, tea, all condiments, salad dressings.
This sounds harsh, but it is the only thing that works for a stubborn case. I had to do this version twice (I had lots of antibiotics again after back-to-back surgeries) for complete relief, but it was only for 14 days. It was hard because it was very cold and I couldn't have my coffee or hot tea. Coffee grounds and tea leaves (or dried herbs and spices) are full of molds.
I did learn to love the salad dressings I could make using fresh lemon or lime juice and various oils. Lime juice with a little toasted sesame oil and some olive oil is delicious. I thought it would be so hard to give up my bottled Caesar dressing, but I have never bought store bought since.
Avocado is good for a high fat, lower protein treat. On induction you are allowed a half per day. It's good with that lime and sesame oil dressing I mentioned.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: deviled eggs
Warbishop, I'm guessing you're doing the Fat Fast. Make sure you truly are highly metabolically resistant to weight loss by comparing your 14 day induction loss to the chart in the book.
Also, if you are still losing a pound a week, you aren't "stalling". Dr. Atkins defined a weight loss plateau as 4 consecutive weeks without loss of pounds or inches.~Megs~
