  • HELP! I want to eat a piece of cake

I have been on induction for 9 days now...and I haven't had any craving at all...until today. I want to eat a piece of cake...it's kind of weouird because I don't know why I want cake...I do not have any cake or any type of snack cakes here at home. How can I control the urge??? Will it go away tomorrow?
I have lost about 6 pounds as of today. Any advise would be helpful.

Can you get a dill pickle??? Sounds crazy, I know, but it usually works and the craving subsides.

Caution! Tough love about to be dispensed!

No you don't. Not even a little bit. Everything tastes better skinny. Food is fuel, nothing more. The purpose of induction is to stop the cravings for sugar and crap. After induction you can find substitutes for almost everything you ate before. Eating cake brought you here. If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got.(DR Phil).

That being said, I worked as a bouncer for many years. I found that the knuckleheads that told you they were going to hit you didn't have the guts to. If you ran to your support group (that's why we're here) because you had an urge to have cake, you really weren't gonna eat it anyway. When I cheat, I cheat and post about it afterwards. It's never pretty or worth it.

You still got a craving for something sweet? Hug a kid.

Re: HELP! I want to eat a piece of cake

If you ignore the craving and do something to distract yourself, the craving will go away. Your body is getting very confused and the carb monster is whispering in your ear.

You have done very well up to this point and you can continue to do well, one day at a time; maybe one hour or one minute at a time. Take it in small blocks of time. You can do anything for 30 minutes. Get a big glass of water and drink it. If you are still craving at the end of 30 minutes, eat a fatty protein snack and wait 30 more minutes. Not sitting and watching the clock. Get up and do a happy dance. Day dream about your soon-to-be slim body. Act silly! Soon you will wonder why you ever thought about wanting to eat __________.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before."

Re: HELP! I want to eat a piece of cake

I second the dill pickle. I ate alot of pickles while I was getting used to not eating sweets-for somereason it took the cravings away. Now, I hardly give sweets a second thought... my weakness is pizza.... When you get done with induction and feel able to eat something legal and sweet try linda's low carb crustless key lime pie. I just made my first one tonight and I licked the spatula after making it and it tasted good! I can't wait for it to set in the fridge!

All I can say is DON'T DO IT!!! For me, personally...if I cheat, even once, it pretty much sets my weight loss back a whole month. I usually gain a few pounds that take at least a week to lose, and then, I usually stall for about a month before the weight loss begins again. I know it's different for everyone, but is it worth it?!?!?! This is my second time (this time cheat free,) with Atkins and knowing the effects of cheating are what keep me from cheating!

Re: HELP! I want to eat a piece of cake

Noooooooo, you really don't want to be doing that. Trust me, if you do...you're going to feel so guilty and then you'll either beat yourself up about it and tell yourself how you shouldn't have done what you did and waste precious time being angry with yourself or, you'll beat yourself up about it and then give yourself license to continue because the "I've really screwed up now, what's the point....I'll just have another piece...or I'll start again tomorrow" will ring out. Don't do it. I agree with Sunny, if you still have cravings and you REALLY need to eat something...go for the high fat/protein fix.

Listen, you've lost 6 lbs (congratulations!!!!!) and you should be very proud of yourself for accomplishing that....keep going. You'll get through this!

You're the one in control here...make the right decision...I know you can.

                  All the best!

I had that craving the other day. I just NEEDED something sweet, and even though i didn't want to give in, i knew if i didn't address it i would be more likely to cheat.

So i searched for a dessert recipe and found the vanilla bake & that sated me & was delicious! Definitely check out the recipe section, there are tons of good ideas...
