Are Pork Rinds a free food to have?

This is the only snack that is easy for me to have at work or moving around. Other than, it is cheese, but I think that pork rinds is better...what do you think?

    Thanks!

Pork rinds are fine. They still have calories though.

Pork rinds are free to have, but due to the fact that they are high in salt, you MUST limit the amount you have per day. The general rule of thumb with regards to quantities is a handful.

      But they are legal.

      Enjoy, but in small portions.

        Re: Pork Rinds

Considering that there is really no such thing as a "free food" as any food can be eaten in excess, pork rinds are one of the "freer" foods. They do make a good snack and can be used to dip up all kinds of tasty legal foods.

You still have to watch eating anything just because it's there, it's crunchy and it's snack food. There is all kinds of potential to overindulge.

How would I know this? I hated the thoughts of fried pork skins when I started Atkins. I slowly got over my distaste and actually liked them a little. Soon, I couldn't put the bag down until it was empty. I still have to put the bag out of sight after getting a small portion out of the bag.

        Sunny!

I have never even seen a pork rind! I've tried to find them in stores but to no avail. I don't think they are very popular in my neck of the world!

Check around to see which ones have less salt. I buy a brand here, can't remember the name right now, but it has hardly any salt...

Consider yourself lucky. I live in the south and we have pork rinds everywhere.

I hate the horrid things. They have the absolute worst aftertaste.

You can get microwave pork rinds online at Lowrey's Bacon Curls Microwave Pork Rinds
I have only tried the hot and spicy, but they are addictive...and as Richt says...salty so I NEVER eat them before weigh-in day!

I used to HATE the thought of them as well - i thought they sounded DISGUSTING...but i had my fiance buy me some the other day - and I bought some guacamole (all legal ingredients) and OHMYGOD! i LOVE them!

I also agree that they could def. be a food you'd overeat - so I think they are something to only have once a day (if not every other) and NOT to be eaten "out of the bag" but instead take ONE portion - such as in a ziplock bag - and you're good to go!

I think in the South it is another food group! Pork is big!!!

Etiquette every where else is "if it flies or swims, you can eat it with your fingers". In the South if it squeals you can eat it with your fingers too! )

I haven't over eat them, but I'll be carefull.

I do all kind of stuff with the rinds:

                        - Waffels,
                        - HotMeals (cream+porkrinds+Vanilla),
                        - Bunds (same as with flaxseed but intead Porkrinds)
                        - Crispy mini cake (porkrinds+eggs+seasoning=deep fry)

But the amount for cooking is not much as eating the stuff for snack.
...it is actually my replacement for flour.

                        Thanks again!

Even so - you are still eating them, whether as a snack or in recipes, so the amount of salt in them will add up!

BTW I only ever buy them in small packets of 17 grams apiece so it is easier to see how much is being used.
