  • I am ready to quit!

I am not hungry please know that..I am just ready to quit this WOE because I can't find something to eat my meat with. I don't like vegetables, I hate them..they make me gag . How did you start liking vegetables??..I mean I can't even eat the vegetables I like! I would bake chicken and I would cook the broccoli with cheese to make it more appealing so I would eat my chicken, pick the cheese off the broccoli and consider myself full and leave the cheeseless broccoli there, I do that with all the other vegetables I have tried.

The only thing I eat from the list is Cucumbers..I have been in induction for a month because I feel that if I go off that I wont be losing the weight like I am doing now..I don't think I have learned self control yet so I can't be trusted to start picking from the other list..I am ready to just do something else..I was thinking of just eating my regular meals at very small portions then exercising but I am fully aware that "I have no self control " which caused me to get where I am today..so I am discourage and just want to give it up.. but then I see all the success in here and I know this works but how can I shove some of this things down my throat..I know it gets some people upset when we sabotage ourselves..it upsets me too but I dont know what to do, what to eat and where to go from here...

You don't like salad either?? Avocados? Tomatoes? Have you try veggies with some melted cheese and bacon...so you don't have to taste them that much.

I know you don't want to hear this...but maybe this is a good opportunity ...and you should try to change your eating habits and force a little veggie in...

I have to say that I'm really enjoying veggies now...before I was hooked to a French Frie, Rice... and I feel great.

How old are you? Because I know veggies come with the age as well….is like wine that you usually need to have more than 30 to appreciate them…
Don’t give up...not eating veggies as well as not liking exercise should be Atkins follower number one goal, even before losing weight because that will come along anyway.

Can you manage soup? If you cook the veg then puree them and add cream/butter they are still veggies but without the texture.

You could add meat to the veg before pureeing them to make it tastier.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

wow. well i will be of no help unfortunately. i would rather eat my veggies than anything else on the plate. i love them all. hmmmm.....i will have to think on this one.

remember....it is just fuel. eat to live. that is what i think about when i wish i could eat something i shouldn't. or in your case, eat something that you should!

Re: I am ready to quit!

I had never ate any vegetable other than corn or potatoes before Atkins, Linda's recipe website got me over that REAL quick.

Try doing a casserole with veggies mixed it like: HambBrocAlfredoCasserole

Her site is: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

Try new recipes. Mix stuff together... I don't like veggies by themselves either, I don't blame you. Try something different. You'll be glad you did.

Try asparagus...sauteed in a little butter and grill seasoning...you can make them as crunchy or soft as you like. I really like the cauliflower rice too...you may really like it with some melted cheese. Another idea is finely sliced Zucchini and/or yellow squash with a little butter and garlic! yum!

Re: I am ready to quit!

I'm sooo with you on the veggie thing. Other than pickles, all I ever ate was corn. I now eat cauliflower in lasagna (linda's low carb site) and french cut green beens cooked in butter and beef broth. It really makes them OK. Other than that, I don't eat my vegetables. I do use flax to get the fiber I'm not getting from vegetables and take a few supplements. I take a good multivitamin, chromium, and L-carnitine. I feel great and have no problem with this WOE. Stick with it.

Re: I am ready to quit!

I *hated* veggies most of my life. The first time I started Atkins I would eat a chef salad for lunch - and by salad I mean, I would eat all the meat and cheese, and leave the lettuce behind. The rest of the folks have given some great ideas. I usually eat the same kind of veggies all the time... maybe try ones that you haven't before or eat them in ways you didn't think of?

You can mix 1 serving of pumpkin, 2oz of cream cheese, and an egg with some pumpkin pie seasoning and a packet of splenda, cook in the microwave for a couple minutes and it's like a cheesecake. The mashed cauliflower hides them pretty well (especially if you add more butter to it).

Well cooked cauliflower, squeezed of excess water, with a bit of onion, hard cooked egg and mayo makes an excellent "potato salad" Add seasonings to taste, or crumbled bacon, or a dash of vinegar....

Try a stir fry with your chicken or steak and add a few onions and mushrooms. The absorb the flavor of the meat and can taste great.

wow the way you guys describe some of this dishes it actually sounds good! especially that "potato salad" I am sure it is a mental thing..about the veggies if I know they are in there my jaw goes into lock..I was thinking maybe I should just spend one sunday and cook all my diners and maybe a few lunches and freeze them..that will take away the guessing away. I am 32 yeas old I know I sound like an 8 year old who won't eat the veggies..it is crazy I used to eat them all, salads, vegetables etc etc when I was living in the Dominican Republic, then I moved here and I found the wonderful world of Mcdonald's and burger king, pizza hut, sodas! when I was eating Mcdonald's I would ask them to hold the pickles and lettuce hahaha crazy? Thank you all for the links and recipes I will continue to try it..I really really want a healthy weight.

When counseling parents on how to get their children to like vegetables, we tell them it takes about 7 'tastes' for the child to start to like something so just try little bites everyday of different vegetables until you start to like them... adding seasoning and butter is very important too. My kids have always loved veggies because I season them with chicken broth. It makes them taste so rich. I use a lot of garlic too. Don't give up, keep trying and trying new recipes. That's the best part of this woe is learning how to cook to make healthy food tasty.

Re: I am ready to quit!

                          Hmm...What to do....

There was a time my DS would not touch a vegetable to his lips,
IF he was aware of it. He would eat things disguised however - albeit, a lot of the dished were not Atkins friendy, but several could be adapted.

What DO you like to eat?
Pizza? have veggies amongst the toppings of a crustless dish.
Pasta? ditto, sans noodles, or using shiritaki.
Potatoes? Substitute, and pretend it isn't, cauliflower..
Blend herbs and veggies ((herbs and spices are vegetables) into mayo dip, etc., add to omelets. Cheese goes a long way!

My favorite thing to do (I love my meat) is stir fry, so all the veggies taste meaty, and add flavor to the meat. 2nd is stews and soups.

It gets easier on OWL with added variety possibilities.

You know, I have never disliked veggies (except for eggplant, don't like eggplant) but I can understand folks who don't.
Start with lettuce, its nearly flavorless but has those very important vitamins and minerals in the. Smother it in ranch dressing.
Experiment, Jicama tastes like a watery apple
Pumpkin - light flavor and delicious, The Japanese have a green pumpkin that is delicious baked and then buttered.
How about a tuna salad with celery chopped fine so you can't pick it out.
How about fresh green beans, cut off the ends and fry them in some oil with garlic.
Someone posted fried red radishes yesterday that looked delicious.
                            One bite at a time.
