  • Are heart palpatations normal?

I've been on induction for one week and my heart has been palpatating off and on for the last two days.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?

It's happened before, but it is not normal. You should see your doctor. It sounds like dehydration, and probably is, but I'm not a doctor. Make sure you are getting enough water.

Definitely get it checked by a doctor. Heart palpitations are NOT a side effect of induction but could indicate a pre-existing health problem. It could be something as simple as hypoglycemia (are you eating every few hours, eating fat with your carbs?) or high blood pressure. I used to have heart palpitations when I had Graves Disease.

          Re: Are heart palpatations normal?

I'm also having heart palpitations on and off.

It scares me, but two years ago I had ALL the tests done and they all came back great. Also, they said I had a good tolerance for exercise when I did the stress test.

But now, when I ride my stationery bike, my pulse is all over the place.... going way high, but usually settling down after I've biked very gently for a while.

I can't go back and have all those tests done again because I no longer have insurance. But it definitely worries me.

I didn't ride my bike today.... I know exercise will help my heart, but I am a little afraid.

You should immediately go to your doctor. Odds are it is probably nothing, but let a professional tell you that.

              Re: Are heart palpatations normal?

              Hi,

I had Palpitations on induction & went straight to the doc, he did blood tests and found I was lacking pottassium and he put me on Slow K. Downside is Slow K has sucrose in it but the upside is the palpitations stopped after 2 days and my pottassium is now back to normal. In my case the doc said it was probably the sudden increase in water intake (I was TERRIBLE at drinking water before ) and it was flushing pottassium out of my system. Get straight to the docs just to make sure it is nothing serious but you might find you are like me and lacking potassium! try not to worry too much as stress will make palpitations worse, if they are really bad try sucking an ice cube, it helps regulate the heart beats (don't ask me how it just does )

              Ciao xx

                    Re: Are heart palpitations normal?

I took Tfek's advice and drank 16 oz of water while the palpitations were happening. That really worked! I also realized that I have been taking in a lot more caffiene than I normally do. (I know not part of induction. I picked up some instant tea and didn't really read the label)

I normally don't drink anything but water and herbal tea (no coffee, no sodas), but since starting Atkins I was using this instant tea 3 times a day (with meals) to satisfy my sweet tooth. I suspect that has a lot to do with the palpitations.

BTW, does anyone live in Augusta GA? I could really use some help finding a good doctor. My husband and I just moved here.
