  • Low Carb Ice cream?

Hiya all, I have been doing great losing weight and all, and am now really wanting to try the Low Carb Ice Cream. It has 3 net carbs in it. The only thing I can see the carbs coming from in the ingredients are Splenda (which has worked fine for me this whole time) and cream. I choose the vanilla ice cream, as any other kind kinda scares me. Anyways, please let me know if any of you have had a low-carb ice cream and if so did it change any of your weight loss? Thanks a bunch!! (oh and P.S, please be nice, I know it is "store bought", and I know all about the rungs...and just so u know I never ever have eaten pre-packaged things since I started, so this i s a big deal for me....I am just curious to see how if affects weight loss for anyone) thanks!

    Re: Low Carb Ice cream?

I think it's okay in moderation. However, I used to have the problem of thinking, "It's low carb, so I can eat as much as I want."

If you're comfortable at the rate which you're losing, give it a shot. If it slows you down, stop.

I've had both Edy's and Bryers. Edy's makes me crave more. Bryers doesn't. YMMV.

My wife bought me a package of Blue Bunny black cherry ice cream covered in chocolate. Didn't cause me any problems at all. And boy are those things good!

Good to know! My wife and I have been in induction for just under 2 weeks now...I've lost about 20 pounds, she has dropped 17 (and she's not that big). I know the lack of ice cream is going to kill her soon...she can control portions well, but taste is key. Which is the best?

We don't have Blue Bunny around here, so I can't speak on those (though that chocolate covered cherry sounded great!!) Edys is tastier than Bryers, but harder to stop eating (I tossed most of a container because I couldn't control myself!) I usually just buy bryers vanilla, and doctor it up with some sf peanut butter or the like....

I eat the Blue Bunny ones! They are great, and I've never stalled on them (infact, sometimes they, er, speed things up, if you know what I mean)

                        Re: Low Carb Ice cream?

I checked out the ingredient list of a "No Sugar Added" icecream from Chapman's in Ontario. The sugars in it were awful. So unless there is something else available in Ontario, ice cream of any kind is a no go.

From time to time, I'll have low-carb ice cream - I just make sure not to have it on an empty stomach, yikes. Live and learn!

                            Re: Low Carb Ice cream?

I thought this might interest you all (although I can't take credit for the recipe). It's called 'Ziploc ice cream'...and trust me...this really works!!!

                            What you need:

                            1 quart ziploc bag
1 gallon ziploc bag (or you can use a tupperware container with lid)

                            1/2 c. cream
                            1 TB. splenda
                            1/2 ts. vanilla extract

                            6 TB. Salt
                            3 cups ice

                            What you do:

Put cream, splenda, and vanilla in smaller ziploc. SEAL TIGHTLY.

Fill gallon ziploc (or container) with the ice. Add the salt.

Place small ziploc (with ingredients) into larger ziploc (or container). SEAL.

SHAKE...SHAKE...SHAKE. About 4-5 minutes for softserve, or longer if you like your ice cream a little harder.

Remove small bag...RINSE THOROUGHLY BEFORE OPENING (this ensures you won't have ice cream tasting like salt).

Voila. Homemade icecream...just as good (if not better) than the low carb stuff you purchase...

I have tried this recipe, and let me tell you, its fun to make (especially if you have kids) and is quite remarkable if I say so myself. The bag you shake does get really cold (the chemical reaction of the salt and ice), so if you have sensitive hands a tupperware container works just as well. Just make sure you don't shake 'open' the small bag with the cream ingredients.

The serving has a half cup cream, so be careful of the carb creep with that. By making your own, you not only cut out the risk of eating the entire container (if you buy it at the store), but you burn calories while shaking away!!!

Madison -- I do something like this only I put the cream, vanilla & splenda in a glass bowl I've had in the ice bucket in the freezer for 15 minutes.....I use my mixer and mix it past the point of whipped cream but not quite to the "butter" point.....it is so sweet it takes away all my sugar cravings for several days.

I kept your recipe and will try that next time...sounds like fun - I'll wear my oven mitts so my hands don't get too cold. Thanks!!
