  • Flax Crust Pizza

Tonight I made my first ever Flax Crust pizza. Although it looked like wet cat litter after I baked it, it only took one bite before I realized....

...that I'd rather be eating wet cat litter!

Tomorrow it's back to burgers, steak, and chicken.

On a positive note I had my "official" weigh in at work and dropped 3.5 pounds this week, bringing my 14 day induction total to 15 pounds!

how'd you make it? I really like my flax seed buns that i make - and i'm sure that using it as a pizza crust would actually be really good.

    4 tbsp flax seeds
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    2 tbsp melted butter

mix all - microwave for 2 minutes. cut in half for a bun - put toppings on for a crust. it's YUMMY.

      Re: Flax Crust Pizza

I made it pretty much the only way you can make it. I did use the brown meal instead of the golden, and from what I've read online that really makes a difference.
It was friggin awful!!! It tasted like sawdust and pencil shavings.

I use the same ingredients for a pizza base sometimes, Rhonda.

I usually add some 'italian herbs' and salt to it.

I just mix it together, let it sit for a while to thicken up then spread it fairly thinly into the base of an oiled large round baking dish (or just the glass turntable of the microwave) and microwave it for a few minutes till cooked.

when firm I let it cool a while then tip it out onto an oiled pizza baking tray so the side that was on the top is now on the bottom (as it is usually shiny and smooth) and spread a white sauce made of cream cheese and cream plus seasoning over it then add my pizza toppings.

Then it goes under the grill to brown nicely.

Thanks Elizellen I will definatley give that a shot next week, as it sounds wonderful and easy . I don't think I can have flax but once a week .. I am only on the second rung , Is that correct ?? But now I really have pizza on my mind as I was a big pizza fan before Atkins .

You are right, Rhonda, ground flax (linseed in UK) is only allowed on induction in small quantities as an aid to stopping constipation, so to use it in larger quantities you do really need to be at the third OWL level/rung.
So when you move on to the next rung you can try it

hahahaha this is a funny post... I bought the ground flax seed, but was thinkning I could not stomach the texture either... I will try it, but I think I will likely agree... no worries for me though I was not much of a pizza fan anyways...

I like melted cheese so I make tuna salad and spread it on a cookie sheet and shred cheese over it... its good enough for me... I suppose I could add toppings too!

Thanks for the laugh... I will never look at kitty litter or ground flaxmeal the same way again!

                      Neither will I...

Honestly, the only thing eating the flax pizza did was make me want real pizza. I've just learned to accept that it's gone for good.

                        Re: Flax Crust Pizza

There are two other pizza crusts that don't involve flax. One is with cream cheese from linda's low carb site. It's really good, but being a pizza addict too, I ate more of it than I should have the first time I made it. Now I only make half a pizza at a time . Here's the site: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes .

I also made a pizza with Queso Fresco. It is much more difficult to make, more expensive, and the only benefit I see from doing it is if you like a crispy thin crust. I usually make Linda's. It's great. Also, at Publix I found a pizza sauce that only has 2 grams of carbs per serving. The sauce is what kills you with pizza. I haven't done the alfredo pizza yet, but it looks like a winner too.

Experiment with some of the recipes for things you "used to" eat. For most of them there are wonderful substitutes. I had pancakes with butter and syrup for breakfast (5 net carbs). Things like that really make this WOE enjoyable and sustainable.

PS, congrats on your second goal! You seem to be right with Papadeuce. Practically the same start weight and current weight. He's from PA too.

I used to work in a restaurant that had an Aunt Edna sandwich. It was tunafish salad on rye with bacon and swiss cheese--browned under the broiler.

I make it without the rye and I LOVE it.
