  • too big is too big.

I'm going to give it another try. It's either this or lap band, and I hate surgeries. I need to lose around 120 lbs. and I've never had much success with any diet including weight watchers. Are there any new tricks or no no's I need to know about? Thanx, too big. 6'0" 300+

    Stay focused, tb.

I'm glad you're choosing to change your eating habits with exercising as an alternative to surgeries. There's a challenge in making changes, but use that drive and determination to make changes, and you'll succeed greatly! Make this eating a way of eating for life. Make exercise a way of changing your body shape for life!

    Best wishes!

Hi Too Big You will be glad you chose this option. I think it is definitely the way to go. I started in September and have lost 78 lbs so far with 271 to go to reach my goal of 200. I thought about the lap band but I didn’t think it addressed the real problem which is not how much I ate but what I ate. I used to tell myself I don’t think I am eating alot so why am I still big. The answer is what I was eating. Things like ice cream, pasta, bread, soda, Kool-Aid etc.. The tricks are drink your water, read the book and use this board to your advantage everyone is here to help. The no's are don’t give up. If you make a mistake its ok just keep trying.

Re: too big is too big.

welcome you are in a wonderful place right now. I honestly don't know how I would do this without the support of this forum. I hope you have the book and have read it (if not get it - it's a great source of information). Join some exercise challenges...there are exercises that anyone can do - you set your goals and stick to them. Go look and see what there is that might interest you.

Another great thing to do is journal your thoughts and feelings. You will meet a lot of great friends here because no one is trying to sabbotage you - we are all here for the same reason.

Take you measurements, there will be times when the scales don't move, but you'll be losing inches -- it's also nice to be able to tell everyone how many inches you've lost (as well as how many pounds).

I wish you much luck and all the success during this WOE. If you need information or someone to talk to all you have to do is ask!!

Re: too big is too big.

Dont waste your time with the lap band. It does not train you how to eat. I have been on A controlled carb plan for 5 months now and lost 75+ pounds. I have 45 to go and should hit that within 3-4 months. THis is a way that I can eat for life and be healthy. 5 months ago I could not jog from here to across the room without passing out, the other day I was able to jog 5 miles on the treadmill. I NEVER thought that would be possible, especially so soon. Ultimately the only thing you give up with Atkins is sugar and processed flower. I eat everything that I used to eat, only modified. In fact I am having tacos tonight, and pizza tomorrow..... who would have thought that? Not me. Jump in with both feet and give it a whirl. Good luck and happy Valentines Day!

Re: too big is too big.

                Some ideas....
focus on what you can eat, not what you can't

read the book. put it on your toilet tank and reread it whenever you're sitting

The first 3-4 days are the toughest....stick those out and you'll be amazed how much easire it is after that.

make cooking a fun challenge....learn to substitute for the things you want

get a hobby! keep your mind off "dieting" You are learning to eat to survive. It should be pleasurable, but not life consuming!!
