  • Portable snack ideas...

I've noticed a trend among some new posters on induction. Many are not hungry and not eating enough. A big challenge seems to be not making things in advance and maybe just not being armed in advance with the knowledge of what travels easily. I bought a bigger purse to haul snacks and bottles of water. I'm going to list what I take with me on a regular basis and I thought some of you could add to this post to give newer members some ideas.

    1 cup of celery sticks
    1 cup of sliced cucumbers
Tiny little lidded bowl with dressing for a veggie dip
    Borden mozzarella sticks prepackaged
    pepperoni slices
    boiled eggs
    deviled eggs
    egg or tuna salad

I'm currently on rung 3 of OWL so I am limiting what I'm listing here to induction friendly only suggestions.

X 2 on the cheese and pepperoni. I also make my own beef jerky by putting adobo seasoning, soy sauce and hot sauce on thin strips of london broil and dehydrating it. You can also put it in the oven on racks at 200 for a couple of hours if you don't have a dehydrator. Dehydrators are good investments though. They only cost $30-$40. When I went out to sea for deployments I usually did up about 5 pounds and always had something to snack on. Be careful with pepperoni because some brands use a lot of phosphates and sugar. Basically, if you are going to be away from home for awhile, make sure your last meal at home is high in fat to keep you sustained for a long time. Something with fiber followed by water will also keep you sustained for awhile. Plan well ahead and succeed.

        Re: Portable snack ideas...

I am going to a party Friday and know there will be a lot of tempting things around. So I am planning to take some legal chicken tenders in a zip lock in my purse. If things get too tempting, I'll just slip off somewhere and indulge in my legal snack.

But Everlosing, you gave me some great ideas of what else I can put in my "to go" box! Thanks.
