  • Too few calories??

    Hi all - I've been on Atkins for almost a week now and I'm finding I'm having a hard time getting in more than 1000-1400 calories per day. Is this too low? I'm 5'8 and 260 pounds and my resting metabolism rate is about 2100 so I'm afraid that few calories might lower my metabolism or something. Is this a problem or am I worrying about nothing? I'll include a sample of my daily menu - maybe you guys could see where I might be able to add some calories in without taking in a whole lot more food.

    BREAKFAST
    2 TB Flax meal w/1 TB cream, 1 egg and 1 tsp splenda & cinnamon

    SNACK
    2 Deviled Eggs

    LUNCH
    1 C Spinach Salad w/1 TB creamy dressing
    3-4 oz chicken

    SNACK
    2 4 in pieces celery w/1 TB cream cheese each

    DINNER
    1 C Broccoli w/1 TB butter
    3-4 oz Hamburger Steak w/1 TB mayo and 1 tsp mustard

    DESSERT
    1/2 C sf jello

    1000 is too low, 1400 is not all that bad. Try to stay toward the higher end and you should be fine. You are about a cup shy on veggies, 2 cups plus 8 inches of celery isn't your minimum 3 cups. Try some 'turnip oven fries' or some sauteed radishes YUM or some 'fauxtatoes' or something. Or eat some red onions slices and maybe a few cucumber slices with your hamburger dinner.

    Not a bad menu at all though.

      I have the same problem. I have been on this WOE since september. If I do more than tree days /week of exercise I lose all appetite. If I even do too much walking around town in addition to my three days of exercise I lose all appetite. When I first noticed that it was a problem my weight loss had slowed down. I was only eating 700-900 calories/day. But I was never hungry. With changing my workouts I have been able to consistently eat between 1200-1400 calories/day-although somedays I have to force myself.... Please eat more, trust me you will have more energy!

        Thanks for the replies! Now of course I have another question - are you allowed to eat more than one serving of vegetables at a time? Or do you have to spread them out throughout the day? I'm sure the answer is in the book but haven't been able to afford it quite yet and our library was closed this week, sigh...

          You can have more than one cup of veggies at a time. The reason why it is recommended to spread your veggies throughout the day is to avoid a sugar spike. Some people get it, some don't... I don't. You have to see if it works for you.
