  • 5 Things I've learned...what about you?

I have read a lot of nutrition books, diet books, articles, web sites, personal stories etc... I've learned 5 truths about food that I don't think will ever change. No medical agency or diet gurus can ever change my mind about these.

    1. Fat (in its natural state) should never be feared. It is good for our bodies and our emotions/mood. It keeps our hormones stable. It is extremely important! Too many people are suffering for lack of it.

    2. Weight loss is a result of being healthy. Regaining one's health and losing 1 pound a week is better than losing 5 pounds a week and being under nourished. I can lose weight by eating all fruit but I will not be healthy.

    3. God gave man the ability to create, discover, and invent. All man-made foods/things aren't bad. We just have to use wisdom in deciding which to use in our lives.

    4. Food is a pleasure experience. NO diet program should ever deny a person of that. Sure we use food to stay alive but we have taste buds for a reason.

    5. The human body is an awesome creation. Given the right tools it can accomplish, survive, and bounce back from almost any type of struggle or illness.

What are some truths that no one can ever take away from you?

    1. Fat is your friend.

    2. Sugar is your enemy.

    3. The human body was meant to move; it does not deteriorate from overuse, but rather, the lack of it.

    4. You don't HAVE to gain weight as you get older.

    5. Whether you think you can or you think you can't; YOU'RE RIGHT.

OK, I'll take a stab at it!

            1. No cheat is ever, ever worth it!

            2. I can fool myself, but I can't fool people who see me wear the food I eat.

            3. I can never fool Mr. Tanita!

            4. When I think I have defeated the carb craving monster, it rears its ugly head again. It will never be defeated, only suppressed.

            5. The carb craving monster is just as much a part of me as is the part that wants to succeed. I constantly struggle with these two "selves" inside me.

The most important thing that I have learnt is that food can not make you happy! You may feel like you're treating yourself whilst eating your favourite food but you are just punishing yourself... you need to find other ways to be happy without any props...

                1. You can't use food to deal with emotional issues.
                2. There is a magic combination of exercise and healthy eating that creates weight loss- you can't have one without the other.
                3. It takes hard work and dedication to myself which allows me to achieve weight loss goals.
                4. I know in my head that I can do this- I tell myself everyday and often talk myself off a carb cliff.
                5. I would rather be skinny than have a donut.

                  1. Being organized is key.
                  2. I can eat this way - it has everything my body needs.
                  3. Starting over is not a failure, but yet another chance to get healthier.
                  4. I'd rather lose and tone up than eat whatever I want. (saying this as I startover.....)
                  5. Don't deprive, there are plenty of recipes out there! Make foods weekly and store, it saves time, money and the need to eat something else!

It is hard work but we are worth it!

                    1. I am worth the effort it takes to be healthy.
                    2. I deserve to thin as much as anyone else.
                    3. Staying true to myself and my goals makes me a better person.
