Can someone let me know what the implications of skipping a meal are?

I have had a headache for the last 3 days and I am feeling really nauseous at the moment - I reall don't think I could eat dinner tonight.

FYI, the headache is not related to Atkins, I get migraines and this one is a bad one at the moment.

    Re: Skipping a meal

As far as weight is concerned, nothing is going to happen if you skip a meal. As long as you eat "legal" once you feel better, it's all fine.

Just remember that the more frequently you eat, the higher your metabolism. You should eat *something*, even if it's just a piece of cheese or some vegetables.

The book said we should be eating every four hours for the max. metabolism benefits - nothing large, just something.

Skipping meals could also lead to binge eating when you do actually “feel” hungry or just better in general. You don’t want your blood sugar to take a dive and then suddenly you’re massive hungry and grabbing the first (maybe) non-legal food that you see. Also, eating is a lot like dehydration and drinking water. If you wait until you’re thirsty then you’re already dehydrated. Even if you don’t feel very well, doesn’t mean your body doesn’t need fuel to function. Even if you’re not exercising your body needs a certain amount of calories just to live; BMR (basal metabolic rate). If you dip below that level of calories it’s not a good thing for your body. I agree with cocbelle-eat “something” but please keep eating.

          Re: Skipping a meal

Desihue touched on the binging if you don't eat. That's what happens to me. If I skip a meal or two, when I do eat, I lose all sense of control.

HOWEVER that does not take into account being sick. I can't imagine eating with a migraine. I'd say just eat whatever easy to digest foods (on the plan) that you can deal with until you are feeling better.

Sure hope you are feeling better soon.

            Re: Skipping a meal

I took my meds and went to bed last night.

I am back on track this morning but noticed I was up 400g on the scale (yes I know, i should not weigh myself every day but I just can't help myself). I figure it is because I did not have enough fat or protein yesterday and I ate so late.

Back to it this morning with an omelete with mushrooms, scallion, and spinach.

            Thanks for the advice.

Sorry about your headache. My daughter gets them and they knock her out.
