  • I am surrendering!!!

my timelines, my goal of loosing so much each week, each month, by the summer, and then feeling let down when it doesn't happen... I need to let go of my mental goals for weightloss... I get my hopes up for the long term goal and then I beat myself up when I don't make the small goals that will get me there. I know that it will take time, that there are weeks that I wont loose a pound even though I am eating well and exercising 1 hour a day 6 days a week. My mind knows that and understands it but my heart sinks when I step on the scale and it doesn't move or worse even goes up a pound. I cannot beat myself up about it anymore, it undermines my determination and sabotages my will power. It gives the devil on my shoulder power... as it says to me, just eat IT you aren't loosing anyway. The devil challenges us most when we are about to reach our goal, gives his last ditch effort to sway us to his side. When we are challenged most we can be sure that we are very very close to a breakthrough. If we can withstand the last ditch effort to twart us from our goal we are sure to accomplish great things. We are supposed to take care of this body that the lord gave us and treat it as a temple and that is why the devil does not want us to, why he makes it so hard, so easy to give up. I am not highly religious but I feel there is merit to my reasoning... So I surrender my goals, I surrender my time line thought I know that surrendering this will be one of the hardest things to do... I need to accomplish it in order to become the women I was born to be.

    Re: I am surrendering!!!

meli, when I started, I was sure I could have my weight off in 4 or 5 months at the most.

I also am exercising an hour a day 6 days a week, but the weight loss is much slower than I expected.

So I moved my goal back to September, and then realized that my weight loss will slow down as I get closer to my goal, which means it may be next year before I get the remaining 32 pounds off.

I don't LIKE the fact that I am a slow loser, and it is very discouraging sometimes. But, on the other hand, this time next year I will be at goal... and when I think of it like that, it becomes a very positive thing.

It's looks like you and I have come to the same conclusion. We are both in it for the long haul.

I am an advocate of setting goals that you can achieve by your own efforts and choices rather than timescale/weightloss ones.

So setting a goal like these :
Eating only from the induction allowed food list for x days
Getting more than half of my net carbs from my 3 cups of veg
Drinking xx fluid ounces of water each day
Exercising for xx minutes for x days a week

      instead of
I will lose xx pounds by xx/xx/xxxx

will allow your body to choose its own schedule (as it will anyway, no matter what goal you hope to reach) but give it the best chance of success
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hi guys, I know exactly how you both feel but I try to think, "I may have only lost x lb this month but how much would I have put on if I hadnt tried at all."Try rewarding your efforts instead of your weight loss. take care and stay strong.x

I know what you mean Meli. I really wanted to hit Onederland by Christmas - it meant losing 10 pounds in one month but I thought if I really went for it that I could do it.... in fact, I hit Onederland yesterday - two months later! It took me ages to lose the 10 pounds but I lost a lot of inches on the way. I actually lost more inches than pounds in total since the start - 26.5 inches and 25 pounds

What I have to keep reminding myself is:
            a) no point weighing every day (or even several times a day) as you are setting yourself up for disappointment...
            b) even though you may not be at your goal weight in x months time, you will look and feel so much better than you do now because you will have lost x amount of pounds and inches - even 5 pounds and 4 inches make a great deal of difference.

I really want to reach my goal by July but know this is a tough target.... however, I am now hoping to lose as much pounds and inches as possible before July and so therefore need to ensure maximum effort is going in to the plan.

Good luck with your new philosophy.
