  • HELP I'm not losing!

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I need help! I started off February weighing 177 pounds. I wasn't planning on weighing myself until March 1st but I just couldn't resist. I got on the scale last Monday and I still weighed 177 pounds. To say the least I was shocked!! I just knew that I would have lost something, I had started a gym at the beginning of Feb. so I just knew that was going to aide me in my weight loss. I started reading the posts to see if I could figure out what I was doing wrong. I noticed a lot of people saying that you need to make sure that you are eating enough and to watch the artifical sweetners. So this week I made sure I ate 3 meals a day and limited my cups of coffee to just one a day (no cream, just two splendas) and I cut out my diet pepsi. I only drink the water and the one cup of coffee. I go to a gym on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays and I take a spin class on Wednesdays. Anyways, I got on the scale this morning just to see if I had lost anything and it said that I gained 2 pounds Am I doing something wrong? I'm going to the store this weekend to get some acceptable snack foods so that I can eat something in between meals. Do you think this will help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I still have about 50 pounds to lose and would like to lose as much as possible by the summer.

    Hello

I'm sorry that you're feeling so frustrated.

Without knowing exactly what you are eating and drinking everyday, it is difficult to guess what the problem may be. My suggestion would be to go the the "Review My Menu" forum and list everything that you eat and drink (including amounts!). Then members can come by and offer some suggestions. Here is a link to that forum: Review My Menu - Atkins Diet

How about inches ? did you lose inches ? I know when I include workouts I might not lose much weight on the scale, however I have lost inches and inches is more important to me then the scale. Also do not worry about cream in your coffee, its a high fat diet : ) Just stay away from the non-dairy powder stuff.

Here is a relevant post from another thread

When someone that is exercising heavily and staying on plan, but shows a gain of a couple of pounds, people always jump in and tell them it is because "muscle weighs more than fat" so they have built a couple of pounds of muscle. (I've seen people say that a poster could build a pound of muscle after one week of exercise. Not true.) For that to be true, it would have to be more than a couple of pounds to take into consideration the pounds also lost from fat burning.

What really happens is that when doing considerable exercise, especially when out of shape at the start, you put tears in the muscle tissue. That is why we get sore. The muscle tissue has to surround and bathe the torn tissue with fluid to heal the tears. This causes you to retain some fluid. That is how we strengthen and build muscle--from the tearing down and rebuilding and healing the tears.

We do tighten up and make the muscles sleeker pretty quickly, giving the appearance of a smaller body. That, along with bulky fat loss makes us lose inches, even when the scale says we have gained weight.

The good news is after we are have become more accustomed to vigorous exercise and are more fit overall, we won't be tearing the muscles as much and we won't retain fluid to heal. Then you won't be seeing those pesky pounds on the scale.

I agree with Mitzi... try posting a menu in the Review my Menu forum. It could be just a little something that needs tweaking to get the ball rolling for you. Try to put amounts you eat, too.

                Re: HELP I'm not losing!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their support! I went out today and bought a tape measurer so that I can keep track of how many inches I am losing. I'm going to try and pay more attention to that then the scale.

The only pills or medicine that I take is birth control pills. I have been on them for about 2 years.
