  • who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

I ask because...i think of all my ex's and arch nemesis female ex friends. and....more importantly, more maturely. I think about family coming from out of state next month. I've always been pretty heavy. Not huge, but definitely over weight, and everyone at work is noticing the difference. I'm extremely excited to see their faces when they come out. Not only will it make me proud, since im doing this only for myself. But i'll be proud for my mother, because i know that they look at me, and judge her (always have). While that may seem petty. They've always been pretty mean and judgemental. ANDDDD my evil cousin has always competed w/ me. I have a good job, and she has 3 illegitimate children now. Haven't seen her in years. and i think it'll be fun fun fun to look my best when i see her again. (again, this is something i JUST found out about , that they'll be here next month.) so it's not my reason for losing weight, but it'll definately be fun showing off my improved self!

Sadly i fell off the wagon...HOWEVER im back on starting today 8/21/09 (176lb)

It is wonderful that you want show off the new you to your family. My weight loss is a positive, happy event in my life. I love the daily recognition I get. I will be seeing my mother in about 2 months and I haven't seen her since January. I have always been the child she worries about because of my weight, smoking, drinking, overall irresponsibility, etc.. It's hard when your mom's a nurse and your wife is a nursing student. They both think I'm about to drop dead any day. Truth is I've never felt better. My wife hates this WOE but hasn't read the book. She still thinks it's unhealthy and all smoke and mirrors and water weight.

I have my 20 year reunion this summer. While most of the people there will have no idea I was ever fat, it will be nice to be fitter than most. I graduated in 89 and wrestled 126. I joined the navy after highschool and haven't been back except for a week here and there every couple of years.

I retire in May of 2010, and I want to be in the best shape of my life by then. I'm well on my way. It is tradition to put your bootcamp picture in your shadow box with a retirement picture to document what 20 years in the service does to you. I want to look better in the second picture.

Re: who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

          Hi,

I found this thread interesting. So here goes. I studied medicine in Europe and graduated at my highest weight ever. The photos were one of the things that got me serious about turning my life around. Also, if I hope to be able to help my patients with thier health, then I think that I should live in a way that sets a good role model. So, I'm looking forward to seeing my colleagues again later this year and being slim and in shape. There is a plastic surgeon from Greece, orthopedic surgeon from Libya pediatrician from UAE and a pathologist also from Greece (plus others) - but they are my close friends.

My mental image is that I will get off the plane and they will be waiting for me in the airport, but when I walk down the ramp and into the crowd.... although they are waiting for me - they won't even recognize me!!! I use this image to motivate me a lot. It is exciting and fun.

Anyhow, good luck to you and let's make those images a reality. I'm close to halfway there. I had 70 lbs to lose. It's coming, but slowly...

          Ciao. S-

Re: who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

as for the DR phil remark. My ex best friend posted unflattering pictures of me all over the internet and emailed them to all my friends and boyfriend at that time. So it may be detrimental in DR. Phils eyes. But he isn't a girl, and his opinions on anything are of no interest to me. I call it closure.

S- That's awesome. I work in healthcare, and i know what you mean. I deal with sleep apnea...which weight gain makes worse. So i too feel that being healthy is important when im lecturing PT's on their sleep hygiene.

Tfek- i hear you on that, my father is states away and i havent seen him in years. I'm contemplating visiting in june. It would give me plenty of time to lose a bit more. It's good that family is concerned about your health.

Re: who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

My father. He's always been critical of me, always commented on my weight. My grandmother does as well, but I don't care about her opinion. I remember once my father made a comment about my weight in front of my boyfriend. I was mortified.

My boyfriend, too. He doesn't think I need to lose weight. But I want to. I mean... he's tall and thin, so it just makes me feel awkward. I would never ask him for a piggyback ride. I never sit on his lap. When I go back home in summer, though, I will. (Hopefully. Haha.)

Re: who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

i haven't seen my mum for nearly 2 months now, she's coming to visit in may so hopefully ill be noticably skinnier by then...i want to make her proud! she's really excited and supportive of how far ive come in the past few weeks, so its just more motivation to keep going!

im really doing this for myself though, im just done with being fat! i want to be in control of what i eat and how i look and i know that this will foster good habits for the future and improve my long term health

ive also got a few shallow reasons, mainly involving clothes and shopping and showing myself off to my friends. but its my mum thats my main motivation at the minute!

Re: who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

I'm going to show my weight loss off to myself!! That is really the main reason that I am doing this. My daughter and her DH came in for Christmas, and we took pictures. I never realized how big I had gotten until I seen the pics. I cried! I also hid the pic where no one else would see it. My son-in-law is also overweight, so I made a bet with him that whoever lost the most weight by the time they come back in would have to buy dinner. I really don't care if I win that bet. I just want him to lose it also. He's too young to let himself go like that. From what my daughter says, he has added even more weight. They will be here in two weeks. Oh, by the way, that pic that was so awful, well, it's hanging on my fridge door where it will stay from now on, with another pic as soon as I am down to what I want to be. I know that we can all do it. Yay, for us!!

Re: who are you going to show off your weight loss to?

Honestly, I can't wait to see my baseball team again. The group of us are really close friends, but we only see each other in the summer (except for the few of us who live close together). Last year I was in the worst shape of my life, especially because I didn't expect to play at all after a shoulder surgery. Unfortunately my stupidity took over and I played with the bad shoulder, but I didn't play well.
I've been really honest with the team about trying to lose weight this off season, and they're very supportive. Although I don't care what they say to me about the way I look, I am anxious to get out and show them what -30 can do for my hitting, throwing, and running. I'm meeting up with them in two weeks for a practice weekend. I'm hoping to be -35 or -40 by then....

"The World". I dont really have any friends (apart from you guys!) and bacause as my weight increased my confidence and self esteem plummeted to the point where I barely go out, other than to work. So I cant wait to be able to post some before and after pics up on here. I cant wait to have a family holliday where I dont have to stay covered up and hiding away from the camera. So really I want to be able to say "Hello world, look at me". x
