  • Planning for unexpected

With my hectic life style I have learned that failing to plan thing really is planning to fail!

For instance, everyday I have to take my lunch to work. I take my snacks to work. And yes, I will take extra in case I have to have dinner also. It's a good thing too. My DH just popped it on me that we are going to a basketball game tonight. Him and the kiddos are picking me up at work and we are leaving from there. Had I not planned to take extras I would have wound up at the ballgame, hungry, not eating for 6 hours, or even worse falling off plan.

My family usually does things on the spur of the moment. I am glad that I plan for it by taking extras along with me to keep me on track. It took me a couple of times to mess up before I actually got it but hey, I finally got it. ALWAYS PLAN FOR THE UNEXPECTED!

I bought one of the cooler lunch boxes that has an expandable top with a zipper that divides the cooler part from the top. It also has a zipper pouch. I keep napkins, plastic cutlery, a paper towel or two, salt and pepper packets, Splenda packets, pouches of mustard, ketchup and mayo, and even some small paper plates in the top part. I have small ice packs in the freezer at all times, so I am ready for any emergency.

In my car trunk, I keep a few small bags of pork rinds, some small pop top cans of tuna and even a couple of cans of potted meat. All of it better in a pinch than carbs. I also have some paper plates, napkins and plastic cutlery in the trunk.

All of this has saved me more times than I can count. I always grill up extra meat while I have the grill hot, so I just freeze it and it is ready to go in a minute.

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

I know what you mean. I'm on the road all day for my job, going to appointments. I can't eat at an appointment so its difficult at times.

Thanks Widget246K, SunnySmile501, and Lilith785 for your replies.

SunnySmile501 I have a cooler like that at home some where. It is probably still packed in some boxes from our move. The last time that I was away all day on a Saturday at a basketball tournament I used a regular cooler. Just kept running out to the car instead of buying at the concession stand! That is a splendid idea keeping tuna, potted meat, and pork rinds, along with the paper plates, and cutley in the car. I need to do something like this. I have some containers that would work perfectly just to hold everything. Great idea! Great planning!

Lilith785- You should try SunnySmile501s cooler idea. It would work great for chicken or tuna salad, deviled eggs, celery and cream cheese, salads..... you get it. Just because something is hard now, it doesn't mean that it can't be easy. With a little bit of planning I bet you will find it a whole lot easier!
