  • Clear Liquid Diet--Atkins Style

Due to a temporary condition, I must be on a clear liquid diet for the next 2-3 days. Dr ordered.

Other than water, tea, broth what can you think of. I do want to stay away from jello.

    Thanks

I'll never even look at jelly,Please take the blub out of my belly.

Having done this several times, I never got past drinking a lot of chicken broth, water and tea. I made homemade broth, so it had a lot of taste, so it wasn't too bad. I couldn't eat/drink anything with red or orange color, so that let out most of the sugar free Jello, as well. I just toughed it out.

Sorry I can't help. I feel for you.

      Thanks for the comiseration!

I have been essentially clear liquids for the last few days as well. I have been adding coconut oil to my tea. That seems to give me enough energy to get through and keeps my stomach from thinking my throat is cut!

this might help -- I googled "clear broth diets" and this came up Clear Liquid Diet Care Guide Information

I had to do this for a week a few years ago....the first couple days were murder (and I was ready to commit murder also!) but after that it didn't seem to matter anymore.

          Good luck!

I think chicken consomme-type soup would be the best as you would be getting 'some' nutrition as well as keeping hydrated.

I make mine by simmering the leftover bones of a chicken after the meat has been removed.

You could also make it by simmering a whole chicken or chicken quarters for a long time with maybe some onions and celery and herbs etc in it. The chicken meat and veggies could be removed and processed into a puréé for later use once you can start to eat 'soft' foods.

You could make your own 'jello' (jelly in UK) using gelatine and a 'legal' sweetener with maybe a little lemon or lime juice if you are avoiding jello because of the aspartame and chemical-type ingredients in it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

If you have a pressure cooker, you can do the broth in a fraction of the time also. Same basic ingredients, just quicker.

              Feel better soon!

Thanks for the advice. I will try to make my own broth today. The powdered stuff is awful and full of salt!

                  Re: Clear Liquid Diet--Atkins Style

In the old days, a high-society-only-made-on-special-occasions- food was an "aspic". It was a savory gelatine made with broth or vegetable juice and it was flavored with herbs, onion, garlic, etc.

You could make something similar using chicken or beef broth and unflavored gelatin. It would taste better, if you boiled or simmered slice onion, garlic and/or herbs in the broth, allowing those flavors to permeate into the broth. Then strain out the solids and gelatinize it.

Excellent idea, Megs! I haven't had to do this for a couple of years, but I am going to keep this in mind. This would be good for when you get sick while doing Atkins and you don't want to eat carbs to get well, but real food doesn't sound good to the tummy just yet.
